Followed tonight

Tonight on the way home from a cruise a car followed me.. and I mean really followed me. I have never been this annoyed over something and I don't know if I should be.

It was after dusk, lights on and I'm on a back country road with traffic doing 55. As I passed a car I see its an old cop car that was sold and for general use, has stickers on the windshield etc, caught it right as I passed it because of how dark it was. Think nothing of it. About 10 miles later in town he pulls up next to me hanging out the drivers window. Some kid wearing mechanics gloves, old cop car decked out like a wanna be cop car GPS box on the windshield, all kinds of electronics and stickers. He practically stops next to me then passes and gets in merges in front of me. I think to my self... That's that's the same damn car I passed going the opposite way, how the HELL did he catch up to me?! About 3 miles up he pulls over to a gas station off the road, stops and stares me down as I pass, he immediately leaves and follows me. I thought no way this dude is following me.

About 5 miles later I get off on an exit that is not mine, he follows. I haul ass up a hill to make quick turn and try and lose him. I put a half mile on him easy and make the turn to lose him. I get stuck behind some slow moving farm equipment and a red light 2-3 miles down the road. He was no where to be seen. Sitting at this red light waiting, anxious I see the good old crown vic lights pull up behind me.

I take a left at the light and a quick right into the gas station. I pull in and he follows. I do a 180 up to the pumps like I am going to fill up and he stops right next to me, I don't stop pull out and leave stat.

I have NEVER had someone follow me like that, I would never do that to someone else. I don't mind people chatting with me at a gas station, coming up and talking to me when I'm filling up or getting out a restaurant. But to flat out follow flip a 180 and follow someone for a good 20+ miles, (he had to pass a LOT of traffic to catch up to me) it took everything I had not to get out of the car and lay into him. I would never do that to someone and in this day and age its a good way for something to go bad. (for them or me)

Grrr, anyone else ever have someone go to extremes to follow?

You should have called the police, IMHO.

I followed a guy in a Viper one time when I was in high school. Turned out to be a really nice guy, but looking back at that night it could have gone real bad!

You guys don't carry guns in Minnesota? Should have called the cops, reported him for impersonating an officer and trying to get you to pull over.

I've been followed before...does not bother me. I just make sure that I don't get followed back to my house. (In the chance they are looking to steal the.car)

I typically carry when I take the Dodge out for this reason. Even though the car isn't worth much, perception is that it is a high dollar car.

Just wandering if there was a rainbow flag among other stickers on his car.....may be its not the dodge he was after all...

Just an insecure kid trying to intimidate you. No one follows me as they cannot keep up.

Yikes! I've had people pull a u-turn and follow for a few blocks, but never to that extent. If I do ever feel like someone is actually following me home, I drive past and take some random turns instead of pulling in. The roads to my house are reasonably well traveled, so it's happened by coincidence a few times.

It's happened to me as well. Usually, it's people who are interested in the car and want to chat about it because they don't see too many Vipers on the road.

You did the right thing by not escalating the situation and leaving the area as quickly, and as safely, as possible.

Since he was playing the cop maybe he was looking for a construction worker or Indian for his YMCA tribute band?

I've been followed before to the extent I didn't continue going home and took another route until the guy stopped following me. Just didn't want someone to follow me all the way home.

I did have someone start following me when I hit our neighborhood. He was driving a ratty old looking pickup. I was going home for lunch from work. I pulled into the driveway and got out. He pulled into the driveway and got out. He was a guy in his 50' or 60's, wild looking type. Was getting ready to take a defensive posture until he said, "You're a friend of so and so's aren't you?" I knew who he was talking about. Then we had a 20 minute conversation. Come to find out he owned several classic cars. Not that I really care for someone doing that though.

Careful there are a few mentally disturbed people out there who buy old cops cars and deck them out to look like cops that occasionally think they can pull people over.

When this happens I'd call 911 tell them where your at and where your going. The cops will intercept the retard.

One accessory that was added to my Viper from day one; my Sig 220ST. Following is one thing, harassing is something else.

Very strange. Did you engage at all (like a friendly wave or nod) at the light early on? If you did and he was stoic, them my guess is either he's just messing with you....either to be a dick or perhaps something more malevolent. Good to try to lose him. Never had that happen....usually when a Crown Vic is following me, I get a real ticket ;-(

I did not engage him at all, completely ignored him as I was talking to my passenger, just glanced over as he drove by at the light and noticed his torso hanging out the drivers window and mechanics "driving gloves"

If I did not have a passenger I would have done "much better" at "losing him" His car, like mine is distinctive, if I see it again I will recognize it.

Agree with calling 911 (or *HP) would have been appropriate after you realized he was following you. Would have been funny if you could drive to a police station and see what the guy in the Crown Vic did.

If he was going to be a genuine problem, you could keep a can of surströmming (http://www.sweden.se/eng/home/lifes...ish-surstromming-a-smell-worse-than-its-bite/) handy and toss it in his car like a grenade. Unless he has a gas mask, there's no way he could stay in the car. There should be enough Swedes up your way that have some surströmming canned and ready for action.

Have to say I'm always cautious on the way home, I'm always checking my mirrors to see what's behind me and if a car has been there for a while I normally pull over before my turn and wait for them to get out of site, even in the UK you never know what people are carrying!

I never leave the car on the front drive.

Yea, I always, 100% of the time check my rear view before turning into my neighborhood. There have been a few times I took a detour before heading home because I wasn't sure.

I did have BMW pace me, speed up he speed up, slow down he slowed down etc last year some time. Not trying to race me or anything, but he was just off my back quarter for about 15 miles. My brother and his wife were a few cars back and noticed it too, we all thought it was odd. I made a special trip the the grocery store just because of this and he followed me up until I turned in to the parking lot. My brother called me to ask if everything was OK because of how odd that driver was being. I chalked it up as someone who really liked the car, but you can never be too careful. Always get the thumbs up and cameras etc. I usually laugh when I see a flash go off in in the car behind me at night.

The car goes right into the garage when I get home, never sits in the driveway and only have the garage door open when needed or really wanted.

If someone wants to follow a Federal Agent home and do something stupid its on them.

Guns hidden in almost every room and car, Layered Video Surveillance, Full Alarm System with 5 day battery backup and wireless, Dobermans,.... when I'm not home I can monitor my house and Viper 24/7 via my IPhone/work computer. Funny thing is besides my Viper most of my valuables are in the Arms Room Safe in a Police Station. Come and get it.

I was in my GT500 about a year back and had a newer model lexus w/ out of state plates following me around 11pm. I would constantly cut back roads crossing the road I was traveling (essentially making a box) and it stayed behind me the entire time. Ended up calling a friend who is a local police officer and on duty that evening and I met up with him at a local gas station. The lexus pulled into the gas station behind me and exited as fast as he entered. I did have my carry gun on me, but my goal was to end the situation w/o having to escalate it having my firearm drawn. Never saw the car again

That is pretty creepy. I've had a few cars pace me but never for more than a mile or two. I've had a vette whip a 180 once but he was looking to race, not stalk me for 20 miles. You did a smart thing by not going home, you don't want a deranged person like that knowing where you sleep.
