I just get sick of hearing this same complaint over and over again. SRT has stated its not that simple to "unlock" the computer. They don't own the rights to the software so it's not just like they can go "ok...we will open up the computer now." Legal issues and red tape etc are involved as well. Lets face it...people buy a viper because it's unique and theres nothing else like it on the road. If your liking the Viper (and the "others" you mention) is solely based on whether you can mod it or not then maybe the car is not for you. My '01 Viper is completely stock. Period. It took me almost six years of ownership before I did my first "mod" as I like to call it. A license plate frame. That was a big deal.

Some people may have bought the car to mod it but for most of us it's bad ass enough out of the box. Look at what the other OEMs have to do just to compete with it. Turbo's, superchargers, Carbon ceramic brakes. The Viper does well on it own WITHOUT all that stuff. The GEN V is a great car for the price. Period. If I could afford one new then I would have one. Vert of course. ;) but can we please stop the I'm not gonna buy one unless stuff. #rantoff

With attitudes like that, why should any of us vendors even want to advertise here?

GM embraces the aftermarket support, sometimes using ideas developed by the aftermarket and incorporating them into their future products. GM made available the coding, cylinder heads, engine blocks, even crate engines - supplied to top GM tuner companies BEFORE the C7 Corvette became available. The end result is that the C7 has been out for 2 weeks now, and they have a plethora of parts (ported heads, cams, headers, cold air intakes, ECM tuning) already! This is what the performance enthusiasts want - the option to do as they please.

Some may call stock Vipers "bad ass". Many of us call stock Vipers.... slow. Why limit yourself, for no reason?

This man. This man here gets it. Thank you Nine Ball.

Also, thank you for creating that beautiful '06 blue car that I've watched countless times on YouTube. That car is perfect.

Amen. Couldn't agree more.

I guess we know why SRT didn't make that much of a deal about the announcement before hand. I'd like to see the color in person.

All this thread makes me think of is what happened to Stryker Green? That was supposed to be available this year.

Uh, Mopar blue? Kinda looks an awful lot like it to me...

Agreed... Mopar Blue. That is the blue they put on the Mopar addition cars.

I guess this is there way to generate Viper excitement. I have seen this color on Volvos and Mustangs. But hard to tell the difference in those pics, would have to see in person of course.

I can picture it now...

Beth Perretta: "Ralph, Ralph, I think I just saved the Gen V slump in sales!!!"
Ralph Gilles: "Okay, let me see..."
Beth: "Look, I added a little bit of white paint into the mix of our GTS blue color and ta-da!!!"
Ralph: "Get that on Facebook ASAP with a naming contest. Sergio will be impressed!!!"
(Everyone else at SRT listening to this conversation): :dunno::omg::rolleyes::smirk:

Well have fun watching those "Turbos, superchargers and Carbon ceramic brakes" equipped cars blow you by. In this day and age, it is easier than ever before to beat the car that has nothing but big HP thrown into it. All of those legal issues and red tape have to be resolved if they want these new cars to stay at the top for any amount of time.

Don't arm-chair preach about the Viper not being the car for me. I made a decision when I was 7 years old that I was going to own on of these cars and I'm oh so close to reaching that goal. I've learned enough in that time to know that this car isn't just about being unique. It is about being unapologetic, rude, crude and making a statement to everything else on the road. The attitude projected by this car is one that should not allow anything else on the road to beat it without some serious $$$ behind it. Then, just like the Gen II and III Vipers do today, you can throw more power under the hood as it ages to keep that attitude intact. The fact that an Gen IV Viper can be shut down on the highway by a '13 gt500 (read: MUSTANG) with a tune is embarrassing. A MUSTANG. What can the Gen IV owner do about that? Nothing.

A locked up Viper is simply not right. A Viper is not a luxury car. It is a working man's super car. It WAS the car that made aftermarket tuners salivate. Now it is just a car that people brag about putting a license plate on.

Look i'm not trying to preach and didn't mean to come off that way. I agree on all the points you touched on with regards to the Vipers attitude. It's one of the things I love about it. I sign all my emails with this quote..."The Viper comes with traction control. Your left and right foot. Learn how to use them." LOVE that quote. To me it sums up the car quite nicely.
Maybe i'm stuck in my ways but I still see the Viper as the king of the hill. I remember it all those years ago and still see it that way.

As a matter of fact i'm getting my '08 Viper modded right now. I guess I just never understood the whole argument that you can't mod the GEN IV's. You can just no turbo's or superchargers. There is most definitely a place for the aftermarket. Not trying to say its not needed for sports car. Including the Viper. Again...I just get aggrivated when people say the car is no good because it "can't" be modded.

Not being able to custom tune a performance car is a legit reason for some people to refuse to upgrade. When the Gen 4 came out, my Gen 3 was already making 675 rwhp. I had zero incentive to "upgrade" to a nearly identical Gen 4, which made less power and shared the same chassis/body. So, I upgraded my hood. The Gen V was a big enough change from the 3 and 4 that I finally had incentive to buy another Viper. In every single complaint thread about the Gen 4 or 5, the custom tuning issue gets mentioned. It IS an issue to deal with, and it could hurt a few sales. If 40 more people would have bought a Viper due to modifications and tuning being available, that would be a 10% increase in sales for the current year. Every car counts.

An announcement of something would be much more likely at PRI. Thats where they unveiled the ACR-X.

Your posts make way to much sense to be posted in the genV forum. I know this thread is about the name of yet another shade of blue, yawn, excuse me, but had to chirp in on your posts and say ... yes and yes. I'm one of them guys. Now, back to what I like to call "Wish it was an ACR Blue"

Each time a new sports car comes out, I always ask myself "What mods can be done to a Gen 2 or 3 Viper to be greater than or equal to X?"

I'm still one of those people so fanatical about this car that I refuse to look at other platforms that may be better, I just calculate how much $$ I have to throw into this one. I know that is a dangerous game but I can't help it. Regardless of age, I will always be the 7 year kid that just about pissed himself when Santa brought him a red RT/10 Die Cast model. In my eyes then, that toy Viper represented something that could never be beaten. In my eyes now, that is still the case.

Maybe it is frustration, maybe it is unrealistic expectations, but I see the 2006 Viper as the last year Viper I'll want to own if the newer models remain in the current state. Each day that passes, I get a little closer to being in a life position to own my dream car. The problem is that with each of those passing days, that '06 Viper gets a littler further behind the current cream of the crop and parts (especially if we are talking gen II) become a little bit harder to find. It's a window I see slowly closing on me and sadly there is nothing I can do about it.

LOL, I have to be the only person excited about the new blue color. My biggest disappointment with the SRT was that GTS Blue wasn't available, but if they are going to have a cool blue, now I can have a SRT with 18 speakers and leather seats!:drive:

All it is, is a name-that-color contest. How 'bout Vicious Blue. Lol, nothing vicious about the Viper. How 'bout, Gentle Blue. :)

You'd think this was a Corvette forum or something. I've never seen more negativity from a supposed "fan" site about their own beloved car! Come on guys, Chevy comes out with a nice new vette, and everyone seems to think the sky is falling! Oh well, I like the new car.....

I agree with you to a point...but it is not our fault. Basic things like the aero package that was shown a year ago at SEMA is still is not available for Gen 5 owners. As a matter of fact, no real performance upgrades are available from SRT (computer, FI, nothing :dunno:).

So when people saw "part of history" as a new Viper product, I think everybody was thinking new Viper model, computer information, forced induction options, etc. Instead it was just a name the color contest....sorry, I and others were hoping for more. If we didn't love our cars as much as we do, we would have bailed a long time ago and not stayed around and keep asking for improvements to our cars. In a way, the passion for bettering the car you see is not negativity, it is wanting to keep the car where it should be....the baddest of the bad. The best parents aren't the ones that let their kids exist in mediocrity and not care the direction they are heading, right? They ***** and nag at their kids to help them reach their best.

By the way, I actually think the new blue color is going to look fantastic on the Gen 5, especially with the right wheel package to compliment it.

Cheers,
George

That lady was terrible at Pebble Beach Concours when SRT displayed the B&W Launch Edition Gen V the first time. Nobody was representing the car. The car looked really cheap with all that black Chevy Avalanche plastic, the gaps.. At the most prestigious car show you don't bring a car like that. The stryker show car with all the carbon fiber bling should of been there instead..

When I went to the SRT tent I saw Maurice Liang, and told him that the car looked cheap, and why there wasn't anybody representing the car. He shrugged his shoulders too,and then asked Beth if he could walk down to the car,and show it to the folks . She said ok go ahead, but don't pop the hood open, or the trunk. I was like ha ha ***!? Was that even a working car! The car was displayed on the front green at the Pebble Beach Lodge. To me Beth looked like she didn't even want to be there. No passion for nothing period.. This was also after the 1st Motor Trend article when the ZR1 spanked the Gen V at Laguna Seca. So you put the two and two together. I knew it wasn't going to be good for SRT..

Some pics..

You guys are terrible!

Why are you bashing Beth or anybody else at SRT?! They're just doing the best they can... ?!
It seems like nothing they do will make some people happy.

So rude!!

I think we are all just frustrated with how GREAT the car is, but how badly they have flubbed every marketing effort (look at the magazine reviews, the MT car showing up falling apart).

THere is no doubt they built a winner, but lordy, have they dropped the ball with getting the Viper brand out there.

Thats what is getting under people skin...

How has your car been?

I understand people getting frustrated but getting personal like that is just childish!!

And the car is fantastic! ..I adore this car! It's the most beautiful vehicle I've ever seen.... It's easy & fun to drive...and fits all 5 ft of me just fine! I don't even need a pillow! LOL!

The car is SO fantastic. I wish it could have been represented more positively. Really got a bad rap with MT. I think the car was so late they had to use preproduction models in the tests, shows, etc. which hurt. Dont believe everything you read. The critics don't know what they're missing with this car.

As for the new color, why not GREEN? Bet SRT would sell a few of those.

You need to do a write up to compare, it would be helpful!

I can't drive it enough. Only 3200 miles so far... I try to find a reason to get in it every day.
