Another Low Tire/ Tire Pressure Sensor thread...

Ok, so I've searched a couple of the threads regarding TPS and Low Tire indicators coming on. Here's my situation, had my new wheels and tires installed Friday, got my TPS sensors from Chuck Tator and had them installed on my new wheels. No light cam on initially after driving the car. At about 150 miles the Low Tire indicator came on. Went home and checked the tire pressures and they were fine. Any thoughts?

Assuming no actual pressure loss, the Viper's TPMS module has the capability to learn and store 2 sets of wheels and tires. So for example, you could have four wheels and tires for street and four wheels and tires for the track and the system should recognize the signal and not have a problem. I believe -- but am not certain -- that if you exceed this number of wheel and tire sets that your dealer will have to reset the TPMS module so that it can "relearn" the new set of rims/TPMS sensors and tires?

Anyone with more direct tech info who can confirm this?

You never stated whether the new sensors were programmed into your car before they were installed? Each of those sensors has a sensor ID not unlike a "specific phone number" for the computer to find it, and which one it is.

If the new sensors were never programmed, you found your problem...

The computer can learn 8 wheels, it will also look for 8 wheels at all times it you do this. While it wont pop the annoying low tire light AND constant "Ding, Ding, Ding" of a low tire, the status light will illuminate in order to tell you that the system is not getting a communication from 1 or more sensors (It thinks Dead Battery/Communication error).

You have to remember the system has 3 operating stages;

Signal 1: system OK, No Low Tire Lights
Signal 2: System Low, Low Tire Light and Chime
No Signal: System Error, Low Tire Light, No Chime

Please tell me you're kidding. I am planning on getting another set of lightweight wheels, TPMS sensors and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires for track use. Is there any way for the module to "learn" and store eight tires/wheels and not have some status light flash? I assume that if I do install TPMS sensors on the track wheels/tires the system will show the "Lo Pressure" warning and will ding? Ugh.

Hi Rich, we tried it twice to no success. Sooner or later, they popped "low tire" alerts for communication error. If I was a betting man I would say the people who have had "success" may just have inadvertantly only programmed their street wheels into the system (EASY to do!) and dont run their track wheels for long enough (Key Cycles) to run a system test and/or swap their wheels out while the street wheels are in close enough proximity to have passed the original check cycle, so it wasnt re-tested while their track wheels where installed. (or something similar)

The easiest way to solve the issue in your case is to NOT install or program sensors in your track wheels at all. The system will NOT ding at you all day on the track- as per my above post, a commication error will only sound a single chime, not a repeated ding and flashing error. On your track wheels, tire pressure should be checked on the track anyway, and you are a lot less likely to encounter nails and such as you would be on the street.

In other words, on the track, it will say "low tire", nothing more- no blinking, no chimes. As soon as you drive with your street wheels on again, the system will reset back to normal. The only time you get a chime is when the system is active and a sensor ACTUALLY transmits a low tire pressure.

Dan is correct. I never got the new sensors in my CCW wheels reprogrammed. I've put about 400 miles on them with the "LO TIRE" message on my gauge, but the car doesn't chime or do anything weird because of this. We lived decades without TPS stuff, and it is quite obvious when a non-runflat is flat

TPS are more important on run-flat tires since they do not give you a visual indication of being flat. If I were to do it again, i'd just have not installed sensors in my aftermarket wheels.

I have HREs with Sensors but could never get the computer to recognize them. I get one low pitch chime at start up and the light. Doesnt bother me at all.

My car is going onto the shop tomorrow. I'll have the guys look into it.

Had a set of sidewinders put on last week with new sensors. Got about 10 miles up the road and got the "lowtire" light and it in the odo area. Also flashes "flat tire" in the odo area. It will do this in the mornings and then by afternoon when I start the car agian its gone and acting normal. Sometimes it comes on and stays on, sometimes it comes on and goes off afer awhile. I've seen alot of mentions about the lowtire but nothing about it saying "flat tire" Anyone???

I have had a lot of pain re these and bought a Low Tyre tester from OTC OTC TPMS : Servicing Vehicles with Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems and it will allow me to test all my sensors and I can confirm that they are all on the same radio frequency and that this tool does test them and provide a reset with the magnet fitted (I assume the magnet activates the sender unit), I have used the DRB but from memory it only really performs an identical task, but I am not sure if each unit has an ID number as Dan described but in my opinion'He is the man'. But why would they all be on the same frequency, its not like the error tells you which wheel is flat??

If your low tire light is coming on at random then it is because the battery in the TPMS valve unit is going bad, I have just had Tator's supply me four new ones and I intend to get my kerbside front replaced as the OTC tester can not get a signal from it I will thern use the tester and reports back if it solves the problem or do I need a dealer and a DRB.

If you replace the TPMS valve it takes from 5-10 minutes of driving for the unit to be recognised and accepted by the receiver so if you replace the unit in the wheel , program it using the DRB the light will still be on until recognised.

You must also ensure that the box on the end of the valve is spaced equal to both sides, that could also mean it may not always work on all styles of wheels due to the valve to wheel rim location.


These are a pain in the butt and being in the UK took me a year to fix a faulty module.

Dealership fixed it this morning...

I think it speaks volumes about you that your first inclination is that I was being a "dick" rather than just quickly stating the obvious. Then you jump to attack me, rather than keeping your mouth shut and helping the guy. Unlike yourself, I actually have helped COUNTLESS people with these TPMS questions. All of this guys questions are surely answered in my previous TPMS posts. Without him asking a direct question, its kind of hard to answer, is it not? He isn't going to get a response from the guy he asked nor is anyone else, because rather than wasting time, I actually checked and saw that the guy has not been on this board in over TWO YEARS.

Please do everyone a favor and stop posting, it doesn't serve any useful purpose for anything other than tickling your inflated ego.
