Diff coolers - What, how, who, etc

Looking for info on diff cooler kits. What brands are reputable? What makes one better than the next? What should I be looking for? How big of a rad is needed? Do you piece a system together? Any good brands? Bad brands? Where to buy? Is a pre fabbed system good enough?

And in this case, no, it is not for the Viper. Its for my pickup. :D While towing long distance it tends to get a bit warmer than I like (230F) as does the standard tranny. But I figure with the enough people in the Viper world, you will be able to educate me on the subject and the systems will basically be the same thing thing regarless of what the diff is on! :D

Same here. Converted to side exhaust last year. Finishing up on a custom splitter currently and planning on continuing the factory undertray into a custom rear diffuser. With all that sealed up im gonna need to add a mini radiator thing to cool the diff fluid and a way to pump air to it. Figured i would just talk to the GTS-R and CompCoupe guys at a trackday and see what they are running.

I have both a diff cooler and a trans cooler on my '06. If you give me a day or so I 'll get some pics up. Its modeled after the Viper Race Car ones using off the shelf parts. I can tell you it works fabulously. It is temp controlled.

Besides, you're like me, It's already cold, the weatherman has mentioned the dreaded "S" word (snow), my driving is done for the year. I'll put the car up on my hoist and take pics.

I have built several systems for other Viper Owners, and all are happy.

How did you determine minimum rad size and fan cfm requirements?

The system was already on my race car when I bought it so I did no official rad and cfm measurements. There are no fans, they are mounted in the area where the license plate is. I've attached a few pics. The pic on the left will show both the Diff and Tranny coolers. The pic on the right shows my ol' Viper Days stock track car. Both coolers have their own Tilton electric pump.

Subscribed. I need a trans cooler for my '06, due to it making too much power :)

If you think you need a trans cooler, then you really need a Diff cooler too. THe reason why I say it is because the diff heats up much quicker. THe temp switch switched on a 195 degrees and back off a 165 degrees. Foer me that equates to 2 1/2 laps at Road America, 5 laps and Gingerman, 4 laps on the full course at Autobahn.

When the diff switch energizes initially I measured trans temps which were only in the low 120's. The difference I surmise isd that there is a greater amount of mass and fluid that needs to get heated up.

Love the little fans and radiator cover :) Do you use this for the diff or the transmission?

Sorry Steve, just read your earlier post, that's for the rear diff.

Are those fans able to cope with wet weather?

It actually stays rather dry up under there due to the belly pans on the car. The fans are designed for high humidity areas though and put out a ton of air.[

I do have pics of it installed. I am running both the diff and trans coolers. I will get a weight as close as I can. With regards to cost, it is not inexpensive due to the materials and the fab work for the harness and cooler shroud. I'll get a price out. Chryslers pricing for a similar set when it was available was over 1700.00 I am not near that.
