I noticed my headlights are fogging up at night. I am going to take it in to get it fixed under warranty. If anyone has had this fixed, what is involved? Does the facia have to be removed? Does the complete complete headlight assy have to be replaced? My concern is misalignment of the facia and/or damage to something.

I honestly would not even take it if for this particular issue. Especially if you are worried about the dealer removing body parts. Both my vipers ('01 & '08) do this. I think its just a design flaw of the headlights.

Could be a seal for the bulb is leaking, if so they can remove the front inner fender liner and access the lamp. Sometimes just letting the lamps fully warm up can clear it out also, but the moisture is getting in through a seal non the less.

The hood adjustment at the hinge can change it but i don't know how you will get 10 thousandths of an inch exactly. I thought you were kidding BTW...

Had the dealer replace both of mine under warranty about 16,000 miles ago. My car didn't fall apart ;)

Update. I had both headlights replaced and the new left one is fogging up. On top of it all, there is now a gap between the right front headlight seal and facia and the gap between the fenders and hood is off on both sides. I am going to try to straighten everthing out myself and forget about replacing the new bad headlight. My advice is to put up with the fogging and do not replace the headlights unless they quit working.

I have seen many genIIIs and IVs fog up all the time, including mine. Usually after a run on a cool moist day. The heat causes condensation to form.

I'm pretty sure there is a TSB on this

There is and i don't think it says anything bad so i will post it before we all go and get our headlights replaced

DISCUSSION:
Some customers may report that on occasion, vehicle exterior lamp assemblies are fogged
with a light layer of condensation on the inside of the lenses. This may be reported after
the lamps have been turned on and brought up to operating temperature, turned off, and
then rapidly cooled by cold water (such as rain, or the water from a car wash). Lens
fogging can also occur under certain atmospheric conditions after a vehicle has been
parked outside overnight (i.e., a warm humid day followed by clear cool night). This will
usually clear as atmospheric conditions change to allow the condensation to change back
into a vapor. Turning the lamps on will usually accelerate this process.
A lamp that has large amounts of water droplets visible on most internal surfaces indicates
a problem with the lamp sealing that has allowed water to enter the lamp. In this instance,
the customer is likely to report that moisture in the lamp is always present and never
disappears. A lamp that exhibits internal moisture permanently should be replaced.

Just be careful you don't overheat the blinker fluid, as the yellow fog it can create is much harder to get rid of.

:D

Can someone please point me in the right direction? Now it's getting more confusing, first I can't locate the spare tire on the Gen 4, Gen 3 Viper's & now you're telling us that there is blinker fluid. So how in the heck do I check the blinker fluid level?

Since that " Mad Cow " Conoly Leather thread I have been utterly confused. Man these Viper's just keep gettin more high tech.

Well back to the garage! :usa:

They can be adjusted. But it requires a electron microscope. ;)

Toddy, Toddy, Toddy - we thought you knew your Vipers? Most people know that a turkey baster works best for filling it, especially during the holidays. As to where to find the level, here is a hint:

And not to get too far off track (too late!), our '03 had actual water in the taillight - not just fog: It looked like an aquarium at times and was replaced under warranty.

Both our '03 and '05 headlights fogged up ('05 still does), especially after a wash. Clears up within a few minutes every time, so we don't worry about it.

Had this on my 06, just loosen the latch on the front and adjust very slightly and it will align the stripes...just be aware of the gaps on either side, but if you are talking about such a small movement, you should be fine. Just to be safe, mark all sides of the latch so you can see how much you are adjusting. And be aware that when you loosen the bolts, the latch also moves up and down...

Thanks Big Dog, I always figured that yellow stuff floating around in those fangs were my Viper's deadly Venom. After spanking the local Ferrari 430 and a Z06 or two, I figured that little air bubble floating around in there was because my Snake used up some of it's Venom.:D Next thing you'll be telling me is that the Viper's now have ABS and that the 2013 model will come with traction control.:usa: I better run out to Walmart and see if they can order me a new StarSCAN* Diagnostic Scan Tool.:crazy2:

P.S. I did catch the Turkey insinuation Mr. Marshall :2tu:

you had to get the rare{muffler flare} option to eliminate the fog in the headlamp area, this option detects any and if all moisture contents at time of mishap, heat transfers from the hemoglobic igniter flare from the muffler and transfers this to the headlamp area to fibulate this problem.hope this helps:2tu:

OMG!! You just saved me so much time and work. All this time I thought I had to replace my muffler bearings!
