What would be interesting to see is how fast a GTS would be with the carbon aero package, which is a relatively tame aero package and on par with the ZR1's. The GTS with aero may be nearly as fast as the TA, and would remain a GT car. Aero is powerful, as the ACR shows.

Two weeks ago when I was tracking my Camaro at Buttonwillow, the Camaro was faster than all of the cars but the big-wing cars which were in a different league. The fastest car of the day was a late-model M3 with a big wing on the back, a splitter, coilovers and R compounds. The driver has been tracking for 20 years. He claims his aero shaves 3 full seconds off of his lap times at Buttonwillow, which is a much slower track than Laguna Seca. Aero would shave more time off at Seca. So aero plays a huge role.

I'm more optimistic than many about the prospects of a Gen V ACR at the Ring. 1500 pounds of downforce at 150 MPH is what I've heard may be the ACR aero package, much greater than the 300 pounds of the currently-available carbon aero package. Add to that some new bad ass R compounds on it to replace the mediocre Corsas and carbon ceramic brakes, and the Gen V ACR could be competitive at the Ring.

I remember seeing some documentary about the Cobra Daytona Coupe and the design of it. I believe it was Bondurant that was testing the car when they first got it done and said it was pretty much unstable in its current coupe design. Peter Brock added the rear duck lip spoiler and it totally transformed the car. Compared to today's wings, that spoiler is tiny. Just that rear spoiler was enough to make the car fast. I have no doubts that some basic aero, correct spring rate, quality shocks and the right alignment will make the GTS a car that will always be in the very top of the pack. I don't even know if it will need carbon ceramic brakes, just the right rotor, pad, brake lines and brake fluid and I think it's good to go. Add R-compound tires and you'd have another winner.

I agree. Aero is an advantage even if its only 300lbs etc. The CF aero package and equivalent to MPSC tires on the SRT/GTS would have been the right thing to do at launch especially since they did testing and knew the ZR1 was still faster than its launch setup.

On another note, the last ZR1 was aimed at taking Porsche and the Euro cars down. They didnt even mention the Viper as a target. And we all saw what the ZR1 did to the targeted competition from Europe. Mauled them.

So my thought is they will target the same marques. Most are all running 10's at well over 130mph and handle very well, if just a step behind the Viper/ZR1[which is great]. I highly doubt the ZR1 will be running low 11's @ 128mph when it drops like the outgoing model did 5 years ago and you can bet its going to beat the old ZR1 time by more than .1 secs like the TA did. The G5 Viper is at the old ZR1's performance point still folks. Food for thought.

BTW to me the TA package should have been an option on the SRT model along with that sweet orange color and suspension.

1. The GTS Viper should have had its hood, suspension[as it is] and the Stryker Red as its exclusive color.

2. The SRT Viper should have had its hood, TA suspension and that orange as its exclusive color.


3. Options available for both to have the Aero package, track pack etc, maybe swap hoods etc[as it is].


Really was no need for the TA model if SRT did some shrewd planning. This of course is only my opinion.

Damn, that Z-28 is a must have. I'd buy that over a new C7 any day. If he ran a 7:37 in the rain, I'm wondering if this car can run 7:25's in decent weather?

Props to the driver, I would have never gone over 150 mph in the rain...lol.

I may have to buy another 5th gen Camaro. It will be my 3rd. The LS7 7.0L in the 2014 Z28 is my perfect Camaro. This car even has carbon ceramic brakes, but the Viper still doesn't. Dumb!

The Z/28 is no joke. Imagine that car with another 300 lbs taken out of it. It's still a fat pig and turns those times despite its weight.

...and it has the tire the Viper should have gotten first.

Today I recorded this McLaren P1 on the Nürburgring. Today the P1 did a record time on the Nürburgring of 6:47 minutes [Not official yet]!
You can see and hear some epic fly by's of this McLaren, also the car almost lost traction!

McLaren P1 Stats:
Topspeed: 218 MPH
0-100 kmh (60mph): 2,8 sec
0-300 kmh (186mph): 16,5 sec
Engine: 3.8 liter Twin Turbo V8

Ever stumble across something that you're not sure you're supposed to have? Well that's the situation I recently found myself in. A few weeks ago I sent a request to Ford for some footage of the 2013-14 (we're not sure which, not that it makes a difference) SVT Shelby GT500 testing at various tracks. I had planned on putting together a little montage video of the baddest Mustang produced to date. SVT and Ford has always been very accommodating with our media and information requests, and this was no different. However, once the thumb-drive arrived things got really interesting.

Mixed in with the various clips from the various tracks was one that stood out; a full all-out test lap from The Nürburgring. As far as I know, Ford has not released any official 'Ring lap times or footage for the GT500. I have a feeling that this video file may have been included erroneously, but Ford did say I could use everything on the drive. So that leads us to the video above.

I trimmed a little off each end of the file and added a timer. I based the starting and ending points from conversations I've had with various "'Ring-Run Experts". It appears that most timed laps begin at the exit of pit row and ends at the first white stripe after the gantry. That description may sound a bit vague, but it'll all become clear once you watch the video.

By my rough calculations, which are no replacement for proper vBox data, the 2013-14 GT500 ran its 'Ring lap in a bit less than 7:40. Not only is that very impressive; but it also bests the SVT's chief rival, the Chevy Camaro ZL1's 7:41. In fact; it's just a few tics behind GM's purpose-built stripped-out track-car , the Camaro Z/28 and its 7:37.5.

I wonder if that's a bone stock GT500, because it's seemingly faster than one would expect. It is usually is not in the ball park of the ZL1 or Z/28 on any track I've seen, if memory serves. Or perhaps the Ring shines with big HP cars, so that gives the GT500 a leg up on this track. In any case, impressive run.

Add headers to the Viper and now it's down 125+ horsepower. How's that going to bode in roll-on or other race? Not to mention, the GT-R is surely not the most attractive dog in the pound... so what were you saying?

Try this. The GT-R on the street will **** a stock Viper of any year. Stop light to stop light or at the drag strip. many will run 10's out of the box. Everytime. That's called ruling the street and there is no argument. Secondly, the 2012 GT=R ran the Ring in 7.19.1 which equals the ZR1 and it wasn't this Nismo race version which will be 575 HP at least, lighter have better gearing and more aero. Nissan has full warranties on their transmissions and has for years whether you use launch control or not. Clear? There are a lot more important factors than just horsepower. AWD TT and 575+ HP will destroy virtually everything out there.

^^allow me to interject...the key word here is 'stock' ....that's what most guys are complaining about with the G5 cars...there are other 'stock' cars that are in the same class or may be even better 'on the street' or at the Ring. As for warranty claims on the GT-R, I hear there are backups and guys have had their precious cars sitting at dealers for like a year waiting on drivetrain parts. I have nothing against the GT-R, but I think the ACR's record is intact vis-a-vis other 'mass production' cars. http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.php/btg-laptimes/fastest-production-car-lap-of-the-nurburgring . According to Wiki, the 918 is scheduled for 'production' runs in Sep 13, and delivery in Dec 2013 (does this include the 'Weissach Package' that ran a 6:57?), so clearly nobody can claim a 'production' car (meaning one that was delivered to a dealer versus a factory mule) has broken the ACR record yet. Sure, it seems inevitable with this current crop of 'hypercars,' but boasting about the GT-R before it happens is kinda like hot air, no?

Now who wants to drive a Frankenstein car anyway - not the vast majority of folks that frequent this or other Viper sites as we want exotic styling and big cubic performance (amongst other great qualities) and the Viper's got them in spades. And let's face it, based on your postings you've left little doubt that you think the GT-R is the end all to be all, yet you don't have one in your garage - that speaks volumes. Second, with the all wheel drive that the Nissan employs it might have the launch advantage but it also has the disadvantage of all that extra weight and drivetrain complexity which doesn't translate well to road courses or durability - areas where the Viper truly excels. Finally, it's rather apparent your posts of late are mostly always negative on the Viper yet you are constantly posting on the Viper forum - it sure seems your incessant negative spewing borderlines trolling. Do you need a link to the Nissan forum, maybe it's more your speed.

Where are the ring times for SRT Viper, SRT Viper GTS, SRT Viper TA and GT3-R? Why is this exactly there and left blank? Each version of the new Viper should be tested and actual times imprinted instead of leaving a blank imprint. Or perhaps this is as good as it gets?:rolleyes:

It should be top priority and would be money well spent, considerably cheaper than cutting down production of the car, assuming the budget finally allows for new tires and maybe some duct tape to secure trim better.

It won't sell any more cars even if it was faster than the ACR, a slower time than the ACR or God forbid the ZR1 would be fatal to a car on life support now. SRT knows it and it won't happen till (if) there is a Gen 5 ACR.
