From Posting Car for Sale to Actual Sale... How long????

I was just wondering, for those of you who decided to put your cars up for sale. How long did it take from the time you actually put your car on either "Viper Club classifieds, AutoTrader, or Robb Report, Local paper, etc" to the time the car actually sold. Basically, I am trying to feel out the timeframes. I noticed that many of the 2000 viper's in the Viperclub classified were between $39,000 - $45,000. Is this really close to the actual selling prices? Hope you don't mind me asking.

What was the final sale price? I went to both my local Lexus Dealership and the BMW dealership, and both offered my only $15,000 (yes...fifteen thousand) for my trade-in viper. I laughed right out the door.

A lot of variables.

I've had a few listed for days, and awhile back ago took almost a year.

Price is key. If you're willing to sell for less then market value it will generally sell faster. If you want retail expect to sit on the car until you find the right buyer looking for that exact car. Obviously that plays into getting your asking price.

Tips:

Lots of details in your listing
Many great photos of the car
Be available to answer all questions

Time of year plays a big part too. Not many guys looking right now for sports cars. Dealers wont give you much as they will sit on it until spring most likely. But if the price is right it will go quick.

Agree with all previous comments; my experience has been 4-6 months....but as described....you can Influence time-to-sale with price.

If you want what the car should sell for expect to wait at least a year or more bout when the right buyer comes along you will get your asking price. If you need to sell it fast expect to get about 2/3's of its actual value. Unfortunately that looks like what most sellers end up doing in this economy.

I had my 99 ACR up for sale. It had 1,090 miles on it. It was up on eBay. I had numerous low ball offers. Some of which were $20,000 less than true fair market value, which I was asking for. From my experience, the GEN II GTS Vipers are not bringing what they are worth at the moment. I would hold off selling unless it is a must. I ended up keeping mine.

If your willing to sell $10,000 under fair market value, it will sell fast if in good condition and clear title.

Took me roughly 4 months to sell mine and I got very close to asking price (which MANY said was too high). These cars don't move quick but it shouldn't take anywhere near a year to unload one either.

If the price is reasonable, it could take a few months. If you price it under market value, it could be gone much sooner. All depends how motivated you are to sell the car. I have seen some start out in the $40K range asking prices and they ended up selling in the low $30K range. There are quite a few to choose from in the market right now, so you have to be competitive and stand out price wise in order to get your car sold. Good luck with whatever you decide.
