Dealer scratched wheels --- they'll pay, powder coat or paint black (best method?)

My dealer scratched my perfect 5 spokes up on their balancing machine. They've offered to do whatever to remedy the situation.

Since repair and polishing will never look factory new, I was thinking to have the wheels powder coated or painted gloss black and I was wondering the pros and cons of both methods.

Anyone been down this road?

Had the same thing happen to me on my GT500. Had my powder coater redo the wheels and they came out great. Finish was pretty smooth. It was around $120 a wheel.

-Powder coating is a much more durable product. Holds up better to heat and chips than paint will.

-With paint you can get an exact paint code match. Powder coating can get pretty close. Paint with also be perfectly smooth if prepped right. Powder coating will have a slight wave to it.

I vote powder coat. I think it is much better for wheels. You need durability on them.

Polishing should be able to make it look exactly perfect if the scratches aren't really deep.

I used to polish, put up a pic if you'de like

I'd take the money from them for repair, sell your wheels and use the money to get some nice rims!

Scratches are too deep to polish or fill.

I think now I am leaning to powder coat, here in Northern VA the price is $175 per wheel.

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments :)

Lesson learned. Only allow specialty tire and wheel shops (Discount, etc.) to mount and balance Viper wheels. They (dealerships) usually don't have the necessary equipment to handle the wheel/tire widths. The person who attempted this work should have known better.

I have had rims repaired that whacked a curb and were horrible. Looked perfect could not tell from new.
