Stock block C7's running 9's in the 1/4 mile and now this stupid car runs a 7m8sec lap. I mean what the hell is going on? I really hope SRT is seeing this stuff.

Don't get me wrong this performance one upmanship is great with the manufacturers, but I hope SRT decides to get in the fight at some point.

I mean they could at least throw us a small bone and drop on 2.8 or 3.6 PD blower on the Gen 5. That would at least give 800hp which might not make it the fastest or the best handling car, but at least we could brag a little.....

Very impressive! But remember that the GTR Nismo that ran the 7:08 time is a one-off car that is configured differently than the car that will be sold to customers. From our friends at Motor Trend:

"The 7:08.679 Nurburgring car. The Nismo car you can buy next summer won’t circulate the ‘Ring quite this quickly. The so-called “Time Attack” car displayed in the camouflage has several additional upgrades. The engine is tuned differently with identical 600-hp and 481-lb-ft horsepower and torque peaks, but the curves are slightly fatter. The AWD system’s torque biasing program is tweaked slightly. The aerodynamics package also differs in a couple very meaningful ways that will likely erode that 0.27 Cd claimed for the mainstream model. The rear wing stands quite a bit taller; there’s an aero fence running along the rear edge of the hood, and the front fenders have little aero “whiskers.” Many of these upgrades will likely find their way into the Nismo Track edition (or whatever they call it), though it’s not clear whether the aero fence on the hood could pass pedestrian crash standards or whether the tweaked engine could be made clean enough to be legal."

First, a C7 ran 9s with spray. All it will take is some dedication from some owners/aftermarket tuners and a stock block Gen V could run 9s on the spray I have no doubt.

Second a hopped up GT-R that is now 7 model years into its tuning, re-tuning and fine-tuning ran a 7:08 and can't be bought from Nissan. The 2013 GT-R ran 7:18 if you would like one of those.

Yawn, the hand wringing has gotten old.

How long did it take the Gen IV to set the record at the ring and ya'll are complaining SRT isn't out setting the ring record now that the car has been in on lots for 7 months?

Jeez. Took 7 years for Nissan to do this. Try and keep some perspective.

Ha. I did not realize it was a one-off GTR. That does change things a bit after reading the MT blurb. Well it's more like the ACR-X than the production ACR. So realistically the ACR's production car time is only been beat by the Euro hyper cars. Interesting that this high tech one-off Nismo is still quite a bit slower than the ACRX @ the Ring.

Another way to look at it is that this super expensive NISMO full on racecar effort is "only" 4 secs faster than a 4 year old production spec ACR street car. I'd say that bodes well for the hopefully upcoming G5 ACR. I'm sure it will be more than 4 secs faster than the 2010 ACR if its as "radical" as Ralph hinted years ago. Hopefully SRT gets its ducks in a row soon and we get to see a new Ring champion slithering around the Green Hell.

ACR-X ran the 'Ring in 7:03, over 2 yrs ago. Without nannies, with a manual trans. From a car that COULD be purchased from Dodge. This Nismo GT-R is just a Nissan test car, not a production vehicle.

The ACR-X was not STREET LEGAL any more than this prototype Nismo is, so its equally irrelevant to factory production street legal 'Ring times.

Ya that C7 is Supercharged is it not? If they was fight fire with wire Dodge should but out a Twin Turbo or SuperCharged Edition. I have noticed the Corvette has been creeping up and has pretty much Surpassed the Viper on the Track. Its Nose to nose!

If you drive the Viper backwards around the track the C7 might have a chance at beating it

If SRT were able to test as rigorously as Nissan, the Gen IV ACR would be even closer, if not ahead to the Nismo prototype car. There is still more on the table in the ACR and X. In fact, let SRT make a prototype with questionable legality for road driving and they would beat that time in the Gen IV ACR easily.

No it isn't. Cam reworked heads NO2 and an ECM that isn't so locked down with security that it can be CALIBRATED.

LOL, and after being beaten by the Viper that was driven backwards, the Corvette's supercharged power plant would suffer from heat soak and have to sit on the sidelines while everyone else hauled ass around the track.

Tuning from Diablosport was just released for the 2014 SRT Jeep. It might be worth call to see if they're doing anything with the Viper. I know the Jeep had the same hurdles as the Viper so I don't imagine a fix could be that far off. Then the Viper modding can begin.

There used to be a time when people who race actually did so because they were driving enthusiasts...and it seems like the people who do take the time to master the art of race car driving are rewarded with putting so-called "superior" vehicles to shame.

The ACR-X was not STREET LEGAL any more than this prototype Nismo is, so its equally irrelevant to factory production street legal 'Ring times.

It was a "production" car and it's not street legal, but it was priced a little over $100K and you could buy it from Dodge. Being street legal or not was not a qualification for this list.

Either way, the ACR-X was a relatively low-tech vehicle and it's still holding a high position on the lap time chart (7:03.058). It's well ahead of more expensive, modern vehicles costing 5-10x as much. Also, it wasn't specifically set up for THAT track while the NISMO GT-R and others were specifically configured to deal with the features of nurburgring.

Completely and totally wrong.
It is exactly because the ACR was both street legal and a readily available production car that it achieved the top spot on the list.
The list of recognized speed records requires the car to be both. Not either or.
That's why the ACR was #1. And the ACR-X was not recognized in that group.
How can you not know that?

Exactly... that is the whole point of setting a ring time... to get on the list of the fastest stock, street legal, production car list.

No, it's common knowledge to every guy on this site but you.
You have proven once again however you're a pompous *** who can't admit he's wrong.
You're on a Viper site. Learn about the cars history.

Seems more like you're having trouble with basic reading comprehension and that makes you mad.

There are several lap time record lists for nurburgring, including one where "street legal" is not a requirement and the ACR-X is near the top. The ACR-X did not appear on the "street legal" list, however the standard 2008 ACR did and is near the top - this was mentioned earlier. Both Vipers are ahead of the Lexus LFA with its nurburgring package. And no, none of this is common knowledge - and if it is to you then you really need to get out more.

Now in this thread we're not talking about the lap times, we're talking about the fact that the Viper, past and present, is a competent performance machine that is undeserving of much of the criticism it gets as in the original post of this thread. I cited its top-notch track performance as evidence to this fact, noting its high position.

The point, again, is that a Viper that is 3 to 5 years older than competing vehicles is winning WITHOUT all the modern equipment that dim-witted folks like you probably think are a "must have" on all new cars. It didn't need a manumatic trans, ceramic brakes, AWD, self-adjusting shocks/air springs or anything like that. The Viper's engine is also relatively simplistic from a technological perspective compared to what you'd find in the LFA or GT-R.

Now did I dumb the gist of this discussion down for you enough or do I need to have a kindergarten teacher present it using pictures and music?
