Hello, I have a 98 Astro AWD and the brakes are basically giving out on me and making a noise like the ABS is trying to kick in but it doesn't actually stop the car. It has been happening when I am going slow and crank the wheel all the way to the left to pull into a parking space. As I apply pressure to the brake and the wheel is all the way to the left it makes the noise and the pedal stops working and I believe it goes down and loses its pressure, thus it's not working. It's the exact same feeling as if I am sliding on a patch of ice....the vibration noise from the brakes comes and it just doesn't stop the vehicle. I'm afraid to drive it far because I do not want the brakes to give out.

If you have any idea on what the problem is let me know. The brake light isn't on, but it could be burned out?

bring the car to a qualified mechanic before you hurt someone.

Sell it. Who has both an astro and a viper?

Hey, a vehicle with the inside carrying capacity of a van that can tow 5000 pounds. Might be a great tow vehicle for a track car ! ( or, some people have a family to wrangle )

sounds like a master brake cylinder. Tow it DO NOT DRIVE and get it fixed if you are keeping or donate it and use a tax write off

Check the Front wheel bearing/hubs. These vans are notorious for this issue. You can take out the hub/bearing and clean the mating surfaces, but I usually just change the hubs(they have the ABS sensors built in) If you have a scan tool with live ABS data, you can drive and see which hub/bearing/sensor is causing the premature engagement of the ABS. Call me if you need further help-905-850-1830 Darren
