Wow. I can't believe you have to be a paying member to have an avatar. I realized an understood when letting my membership expire that I'd be giving up things of value that have benefitted me - like a discount with vpa, but do we really have to pay dues to have a picture up? How petty.

Weren't the very folks in charge then now starting the new club?--Dave

I wouldn't be surprised that they approved the change. Personally, I don't mind. Folks made a decision about how to give members some unique benefits on an open forum. It does look like they changed those specific rules over there though, probably as a result of some complaints made in these forums.

I'm on a bunch of different forums, as I'd guess many of you are. On each one I've got an avatar, sig and photo gallery, and I'm not a paying member on any of them. Maybe I'm mistaken, but don't think it costs anything to have an avatar - so the think the vca would take something away that has no cost to them seems petty and childish. And I have to admit, I like seeing mine and others. Every time I notice a regular has changed theirs, I think cool, someone got a new mod they want to show, or took a new pic they're proud of, and I'm happy for a fellow viper owner. I admit, it's not really a big deal, but if the vca has taken away something that costs them nothing, then I'm happy they're no longer getting my membership dues.

I believe that the leadership discussed things that they could make be a membership benefit, especially as relates to participation on an open forum. Avatars and signatures were some of them. Enough voting leadership agreed so that it was implemented. I have no problem with a club deciding what is treated as membership benefits. There will never be total agreement on all decisions. I bet that they never ever thought that someone would decide not to become a member based on them offering a membership benefit of an avatar to members only.

I think you're thinking I factored the avatar thing into my decision to let my membership expire, that's not the case. I let it expire because the only benefit I really used was the vpa parts discount. I only noticed it after the fact. Guess I didn't make that clear if I came across as being up in arms over something so minor as an avatar.

makes it pretty clear there are hardly any members here, wonder why....

One could pose the question a little differently, and ask why there are so many more enthusiasts here now, especially since there is another similarly focused forum that was constructed as a new haven for them (us).

The answer for me is that I have been coming here for 8 years and I like this forum, except for the sniping and bad mouthing of people. I can fill the need for that at VA. Now I have 2 forums to participate in, and the 3rd, darker one, for some technical talk.

I suspect lots of other formerly paying members feel the same.

And then there are those who just get their kicks out of peeing in their neighbor's pool. LOL.

Good Lord, Guys, quit whining about it! The guidelines haven't changed in years, so don't blame things on the 'new' management. The board is here for you to use and abuse, but if you want to have your avatar and rights to the restricted sections, you pay for that extra ability.

As I said in other posts, I'm very tired of the negativity from non members (enthusiasts)--if you have decided to leave-- LEAVE. I'd really like ALL clubs to restrict posting to members only. "Enthusiasts" could look at various site areas but not post. That way all clubs can be rid of the negativity from people that don't have any skin in the game. If a paying member has concerns, then by all means express them--I encourage that. But for non members to complain and ***** about a site for which they pay nothing seems to be rather pointless. I'm very tired of reading these posts. Let's talk about the car--that's why we belong. If you don't belong and want to say your 2 cents worth--JOIN.--Dave

But you can only become a member if you own a viper. What about someone who is looking to become and owner and wants to ask questions and gain knowledge of the car? By your way of thinking they might decide they want no part of such an exclusionary club.

Two good points...
Both could work if the enthusiast was able to read the majority of the forums besides the few specific members areas(this is implemented on some forums i have seen including the VCA)
In addition, create a specific enthusiast section for them to post questions, comments, intros, ect...

i wander how that would work out?. A downside would be enthisiasts not being able to add/share helpfull info to member discussions.
One solution being let them post most everywhere but moderate them to make sure stuff stays on topic and constructive.
But we all hate moderators right... ;-)

Seriously guys......

I've worked within the current structure and it's served me well as an enthusiast. Why suddenly change something that has worked for a long time now that there is an influx of enthusiasts. Believe me, if I was eligible, I would toss in the cash for a membership. Why reduce our access because there are now people who are eligible and choose not to be, why is that suddenly an enthusiast problem. The forum structure and rules work well. Please don't let a few of the eligible that choose to feel picked on because of a choice they made affect the rest of the enthusiastic population
