Suspension/Wheel Plan for my Viper... New Member, have questions...

I just recently acquired a 2005 Black on Black Viper which should be here next week. very excited about the whole operation. I am not a "newbie" to car forums, only this one. I know the urgency of the "search" function as i have been researching this site for a while now....

Through my searches I have decided upon an Eibach set-up with Spring caps in the rear only.

I am still up in the air on which exhaust I will be getting...

I have researched, searched, read threads (about 10 relatively recent ones) on wheel spacers. I am looking to make the stock wheels/tires flush with the fenders and from what I am gathering I have seen 3/4" in the front and 1" in the rear *should* work. Can anybody confirm or negate that assumption? I also read you need about 7 turns on the lugs, etc. I am just wondering if that is the sizing I should be looking at or if I will need a different size or something in addition to make it work on a stock wheel setup.

Okay...a couple of things. The Eibach's are good for a quick, cheap lowered look, but they have their drawbacks. They get floaty and bouncy at speed, which can work against you when you're planning on pushing the wheels out the edge and potentially contacting the fender. The rear fender has a 3/4" lip, which can be a problem without trimming it back.

Secondly, for that sort of depth, you need adapters, not spacers. The thickest spacer you can run on the stock wheel studs is 8mm, and that's not really the look you are going for. The smallest adapter, to my knowledge, is 25mm, which is too much on the front. So, you have some decisions to make. I urge you to PM bmw2nv2000 about the setup on his car. You can clarify with him, but I think he had his set custom made, and could probably get you headed in the right direction.

With an 05, I'm assuming you have the 10 spokes...adapters with the 5 spokes wheels are a no go, unless you machine pockets out from the back side of the wheels.

thanks for the heads up. In fact, your car was the one that led me to get spacers I believe. I saw your setup and thought that was the best way to go. It is definitely a learning process. I will get in touch with BMW, his name has come up in a few threads as well. I look forward to owning this.

Welome aboard 2005. Ryan was right on. You can go with 3/4" front and 1" rears but you will have to trim the huge rear fender inner lip so you dont bust a quarter panel. But you can always go 3/4" front and rear and still look good. Also you will have to have pockets machined in the hub of your wheels to clear your factory studs sticking through the adaptors( I had my 5 spokes machined too). I had my set custom built at this company www.motorsport-tech.com for a great price and they are pretty quick to build them. Any more questions feel free to ask us :2tu:

First welcome to the Viper madness you will love it. I just finish doing the spacers/adaptors on my ride, and what i find out was the 3/4 on the rear works great the 1" was fine but not perfect, on the front the 3/4 was to much for me, I did a 3/8 spacer and that worked great. The pic is with the 3/4 adaptor on and another pic of the 3/4 adaptor hub centric to the hub and wheel. if you look at the front wheel it has the 3/8 spacer. As for the eibach and caps DONT do it the ride will be to bumpy, save your coin for a nice set of coil overs motons, penke,or H&R do it once and be done with it.

LMAO. I hear ya Ryan. I dont know what the heck happened there. I typed it and posted it and 10 minutes later it still not there so i typed it again. Then both show up Go figure???

If you dont want a super agressive set up then Id listen to cubican and I must agree with cubican on the caps and springs. I did it on two different gen 3's now that I have gone with Motons. I will NEVER go any other way!!!! Dont forget KW coilovers. Thats a great set up also.

I may also be interested in what you have to offer as well. Now I am assuming your setup is stock? In other words I am going with the stock 10 spoke wheel for now and would just like the wheels to sit flush. Reading your post it looks as though I can go 3/8" in the front and 3/4" in the back but I will need an adaptor for both front and back correct?

I will PM you regarding what you have available but I figured I would make this post public in case others have/had similar questions.

I got a great deal on a set of ACR coil overs and lighter springs(since I don't have aero on my car). I want the ability to adjust my suspension and get a lower ride height on the street.

I hate to dig up an old thread but i have a few questions. First off, that b/w coupe looks incredible. I just lowered my coupe and I'm also on the alcoa 5 spoke 18/19s and i wish they sat flush like that.

Is the coupe pictured on a 3/4" adapter in the rear, and 3/8" spacer up front?

Few questions;

1. Where can i find the rear adapters (or who can make them)?
2. When you run the spacer up front do you need to replace the factory studs, or are they long enough to provide proper thread engagement even with the spacer?
3. Whats to be done about that wide plastic lip under the rear fenders? Does anyone have pictures of one trimmed up? If/when you trim it up are you now allowing any dirt/debris to enter in behind the wheel wells?
4. How detrimental are the spacers in the grand scheme of things to overall vehicle operation/performance/reliability. Mine is a 99% street car, just used to blast around on nice days and go to shows. However, i cant help but think that pushing the track out 3/4" in the rear would put a much larger bending moment at the wheel bearing, increasing wear, and eventually leading to bearing failure.

Yeah i just had it lowered (hence why i'm inquiring about the spacers). Eibach springs and caps (in the rear only).

You only lowered the back? What did you do to the front? Also, how does the car ride? I was looking at doing a similar setup but heard about BC Racing Coilovers which are ok price and can be adjusted. Let me know. Thanks.

Looking at BC Coilovers too, had a friend that just installed them and not only were they easy to install, but he really liked the results.
