Recently picked up my first viper, a 2008 ACR. I'm probably going to end up tracking the car some and want to have proper safety equipment.

What does it take to install a six point harness in an ACR? Do you need to cut or alter anything? I don't want to alter the car if possible and if so I want to be able to take it back to original form should I ever want to.

What harness would you recommend? I'm looking at the harness carried by viper parts rack as a possibility.

Also, what helmet would you recommend?

Thanks.

Teamtech harnesses. The Gen 4 has holes in the bulkhead behind the seats, and behind the seat near the floor to install eye bolts to clip in the harnesses.

If you are looking for a helmet, I assume you've never done this before.

If that is correct, you will need an instructor.

Absolutely no amount of aggressive street driving, going triple digits on the highway, or street racing will prepare you for what is to rock a Viper on the racetrack.
Don't ask how I know.

Your ACR is an awesome trackday weapon,........but skilled handler is required.
The journey of learning to drive it, is more fun than you can imagine.

All, thank you for your feedback. Looking forward to getting to know the car and how to drive it.

Allen, I agree with you. I plan on taking some driving courses to really learn how to handle the car. I don't plan on doing any major upgrades to the car but instead plan on putting the money towards driving instruction and upgrading the nut behind the wheel.

I have a couple of sets of TeamTech 6 points harnesses (Hans compatable) includes hardware to mount in Viper.

They were installed in my 2009 ACR.

Glad to see your putting your money towards driving instruction.

The stock ACRs performance is incredible.

As mentioned you do not have to cut anything and the belts attach to the bolts in the car. Be real careful when removing the seat so as to not scratch the seat or interior. Get a six point but Im not an avid fan of the Team Techs. I do have them in my ACR but do not like them as they are sometimes difficult to loosen. They bind easily at the adjustment points. Team Tech is the most popular for Vipers but there are much better ones out there such as Willans which most pro drivers use inc. Nascar, IRL, and IMSA. That should say something for them. The best helmet by far is the full face Aria but more expensive. Do not scrimp on the helmet. The sport model 20 HANS device is designed for the Viper seat angle and is highly recommended. 595.00 retail for the HANS. Safer Racer is a great place to look for these.

Technically you may have to cut a hole in the carpet for the anchors, but that's all. The mounting points are all there, just covered up.

Mike,

Tried to send you a PM but you inbox is at its limit. Please delete some *** and advise.

FYI I have TeamTech harness in my racing car as well. I have yet to have binding issues with either.

Thanks.

With respect to helmets, make sure to buy one with a minimum Snell rating of 2005. Most helmets are now 2010. Most motorcycle helmets do not meet these standards.

Gtsr,

Thanks for the info and the advice on the HANS. I was looking into them as I hear it are an important piece of safety gear too.
