08 ACR short throw shifter upgrade

Recently got a 08 ACR, thinking about changing the shifter to a short throw shifter. I would like to keep the look as stock as possible and want to be able to take the car back to stock easily if I so desire.

What would you all recommend? Has anyone installed a '10 ACR shifter into a '08 ACR?

Unless drag racing the car I would not change the factory shifter to a short throw as Dodge engineers spent a lot of time with the right height and throw for the shifter. Even the Ring record had the stock shifter. I do not think the upgrade expense to the model 10 shifter would be worth it over your 08. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, I switched my 08 ACR shifter for a '10 shifter and loved it. I didn't do the work. I had my dealer do it when I had it in for an oil change.

How much did the witch cost? Do you know the part number by any chance? I saw mopar performance parts offers the '10 shifter ball and lever for sale. Is this the only part you need to change?

The shifter on an 08 ACR is no different than the shifter on the Gen II-!V cars and there are some very nice aftermarket shifters that are well worth the money and don't change the look at all if you put the OEM shift handle back on.

It's about $250.00 OEM. Yes, that is the only parts needed, the ball and lever.

Mmmm...Changing the shifter ball and lever is not getting you a 'short throw shifter' .. Different thing to change the shifter.

Can you please explain the difference? I have wondered what makes a shifter short throw.

I know dodge changed the shift lever in 2010 on the ACR to shorten the distance the knob travels when shifting. If the shifter travels the same number degrees but the radius of the lever is shorter then the length of the arc traveled by the shifter will be shorter. So while this may not be a true short throw shifter, shortening the length of the lever does shorten the distance required to shift.

I changed mine to a MGW shor throw shifter and I think it has improved the shifting performance over all. Stronger springs? don't know but I have used it and plan on keeping it in the car.

Natsfan, the shifting mechanism of the 'short throw shifter' like the MGW or Hurst is actually more compact than the OEM mechanism, and the OEM is made of stamped steel parts whereas the MGW or Hurst are billet aluminum with the precision that goes with the manufacturing of high quality parts. Measured the same distance from the shift mechanism, the short throw shifters are more compact in action. You will get some benefit from a shorter lever, but significantly more benefit from actually changing the shifting mechanism. Of course, you can keep the OEM shift lever and knob for OEM appearance with the MGW or Hurst shifter, or change to the '10.

Just put a stock short throw shifter in my 08 Vert. It took all of 10 minutes to install. I like it so much more. I don't know if the throw is shorter, but it is much more comfortable now and the low profile looks way better. Anyone want to buy my standard throw shifter?
