quick question SRT-10 Gen 3 about exhaust and calipers

Hi guys,

I had a look at a 2005 Viper locally and I saw a strange "exhaust like" looking thing underneath/ between the diffuser...it looked like a muffler with 2 small pipes pointing to the tarmac in the middel of the diffuser. Not sure if this is part of the standard exhaust or what it should be, but I'm sure you guys can tell me in a sec.

Further I noticed the calipers were red, but it didn't say "Viper" written on them, does this mean they are repainted or is it normal for a MY 2005 to have them all red?

The small pipe thing might be a diff cooler. Just my guess based on location and general description. I'd guess the calipers are repaints and they just didn't track down the decals for the letters. They Viper script tends to yellow with heat cycles.

didn't look like a diff cooler as it seemed to be greasy like an exhaust, I think to have seen it was connected to the sidepipes...

this car was used in James Bond movie, the thing you are talking about is a Grease Spreader

Huh, weird. Would have to see a picture. Maybe it was just some exhaust mod done by a previous owner.

Not sure about export mufflers. USA would have side pipes. Nothing in the back.

I believe the export models had some solenoid-controlled gadget in the exhaust to modify/control the sound (noticed this in the factory electrical manual.) Don't know if that is what you are seeing...

QUESTIONS: (??) - Your post seems to be questions about a Viper that is not yours.
1. The video shows the underbelly with the exhaust (installed) in question. Then it shows the exhaust uninstalled? They took the exhaust off for a video?
2. You say the calipers do not have the Viper logo, BUT, towards the end of the video the calipers DO HAVE the Viper logo?
3. ***?

Sorry for the confusion. I was in negotiation with this car and was really wondering what the exhaust thing was, I only didn't want to mention the actual car because I was still negotiating. The movie is an other car, but seemed to have the same exhaust, the car I just bought an hour ago is red. The calipers turned out to be original paint, the Viper letters just weren't clear anymore, I can still see them, but very unclear..
The exhaust turned out to be an exhaust with vacuum valves in there, it sounds really nice and quiet until I get to about 3000rpm, than all hell brakes loose.

I am very happy with the purchase and will open an topic in time, when I have made some decent pics. But I add a pic of the exhaust pipes of my new car. It seems the sills only have straight piping in them, no muffler, this one is at the back of the car instead. cats still in front of the sidesill

the box with extra 2 pipes, as mentioned:


these pipes go to the extra box and have valves on them, which can't be seen in the pic..they open @ 3000rpm and than the gasses skip the silencer and it becomes an open exhaust.


Instead of going through the side sill and become the exhaust tip, it crosses before the sills hole and the pipe goes through the box before coming back and become an exhaust tip, this makes the original X pipes unnecessary, the pipes communicate/ cross in this silencer under the diffuser.


Am I correct in thinking the original X pipes are more at the front of the car?

And off topic, but important to me, is there any way in disabling the alarm when the battery of the remote goes empty? Or should I swap the battery every year or something like that?
And how do I insert the radio's code, when the battery has been down? I have the code, but don't now how to enter it.

Roy, all european produced Vipers have this exhaust. In the back you have what they call the city exhaust. Above 3000rpm the valves open and is uses the sidepipes. It had to do with EU regulations in 2003. If you relove the back exhaust en put the valves in permanent open mode you hace a US exhaust system

I have an "export" car (EU specs) and I know a bit about them; I can confirm what Roland says, the thing between the rear wheels is an additional silencer, that actually does most of the job in cruising conditions. Then two flap valves open at a certain point (not sure about the 3000rpm thing) and the exhaust becomes actually unsilenced. I am pretty sure headers and cats are the same for US and export, and the difference is just cat-back, because of noise issues.
This is one of the things Dodge did to sell the car in EU, like adding a small rear light, I think different side lights, and I don't know what else (oh, yes: no "panic" on the key fob and no skip-shift, for instance...).
Question: does anybody have (or can find) the same picture of an EU exhaust, with the main silencer and so on?

Roy, so the "muffler" is all the way in the back near the diffuser?

From the pictures I cannot tell, but when the flaps open, I guess the exhaust dumps out the sides un-muffled? Or does it dump out those back two pipes near the diffuser unmuffled?

Does the exhaust sound "good" when the flaps open, or does the Corsa sound better and that's why you are taking it off?

The valves open from 30 until 40 miles an hour, when they are open the airflow goes trough the extra muffler underneath the diffuser. The flow goes out through the small pipes at the back ánd the sidepipes. Rest of the time they are closed and the exhaust is about identical with the usa spec standard exhaust, so the sound is exactly the same as in the usa apart from the city cruising speed, at that speed you almost don't hear the car.
This system makes it possible to achieve our EU noise and emission demands at city driving speed.

I am swapping it for corsa's because i want it to sound more aggressive on start up and at WOT, but I don't want the drone
