Thats just track time driving. Not good for much except seat time & arm chair racing.
The more track time the better driver you become. Bruce you are on your way to
receiving a the distinguished honor of most track days thru social media. Congratulations, Keep your car
in top form, change your oil after every weekend, replace your power steering fluid each weekend also,
make sure all areas are maintained. Now go get them....reel them in...
Come on Bruce, throw a roll cage in there, get some safety items, and you can run in
a Performance tuning class. You will still be able to drive it to the track, pack up & go home
when finished.

Porsche was caught and should of signaled the pass. Good job bruce. I would of not had your patience I would of had to show him the bump draft.

Thanks! This video was part of a detailed TA Track Attack thread posted elsewhere. I enjoyed following this GT3 for a few laps, and data-logging showed how I had to get off the throttle over 300 feet earlier than normal at the end of the straight, and that was when using just 3rd gear through the tight corner leading onto the straight. You'll notice in the video the only time I grabbed second for quicker acceleration was the time I set him up for the pass. In fairness to him, he probably wasn't checking his mirrors much as I had been letting him get out ahead just to reel him in later. My friend's input was also pretty distracting so I was happy to have the GT3 in front of me.

Btw, I read your comments about rear wiggle and brake bias at Road Atlanta. While my TA brakes and suspension are quite different, I do get the rear wiggle also, as did Randy Pobst in his record run at Laguna Seca. As he said, it's something to get used to as you discover you can have faith that the rear isn't going to step out, and both myself and Venom V have found it sometimes does goes away. I think it's tire pressure dependent, and it mostly disappears for me when I run 30 psi hot pressures vs the 34 psi I was running before. My brake bias feels quite good under a wide range of street and track use, but again, mine is different. Venom V has a GTS, which I think yours is also, so you could check with him. I just replaced my front Corsas with 10 track days and ~8000 miles. Looking forward to hopefully doing RA next year, or 2016 at the latest if I tie it in with a road trip to New Orleans for NVE 2.

Glad to hear you're a track rat that will be actually tracking the car. Looking forward to reading about your experiences on track!

Bruce

Just watched your RA videos...very consistent driving from all those laps you've done there!

Bruce,

If you're replacing your tires with the same Corsa's.....do you think there is any value in shaving them down a little? When I got into track stuff 20 years ago, most "track" tires that were sticky needed to be shaved down to reduce squirm, heat and chunking. Very few DOT tires of that time were molded with minimal tread depth. What we found is that the tires actually lasted longer both from wear and heat cycles by starting with less thread.

Cheers,
George

Yes, I absolutely do...for some users. I debated ordering them shaved but at the time of ordering the tires showed no adverse signs of heat damage. By the time they finally did it was two weeks prior to this event and I already had the replacements ready to go. Would I have got more miles or events out of them if they were shaved...I don't know. But I can say I've been thrilled with both the wear and street/track performance of these tires, and maybe next time when I'll need a full set I'll try them shaved...or not ;)

I would say they are probably better ordered full tread for me because I do long distance driving to tracks and need the puncture and hydroplaning resistance of the extra tread. But if I had an extra set of wheels for local track days only I would benefit from shaved tires for improved performance and wear on track. It would be hard to justify the cost and bother of an extra set of wheels without the certainty of even getting an extra track day or two out of them. 10 days just seems awfully good to me, especially after wearing/heat cycling-out all previous R compounds on other cars much quicker.

Reeling in is a little exaggerated ,looks like a good race.Put one of the new Boosted Turbo Porsches out their and their would have been none of that pulling on the long straights.(Very Competitive Machines) Now,I must day, that TA runs like a ***** ape, very impressed and the driving was outstanding....

Read his post again. He was polite and the Porsche driver was not. On track days, the rules are that he should have allowed the TA to pass. Also, in case you did not notice, Bruce had about an extra 200 pounds in his car - the passenger - and still reeled him in.

The stock Porsche Turbo cannot beat the stock TA on a road course. Just accept that fact because it is a fact. And the 2015 TA 2.0 will beat the Porsche turbo by an even greater margin.

The Viper TA is a better looking and better performing road course car than the Porsche Turbo for much less money both as to its initial cost and for upkeep and maintainence. I think that down deep you know that.

So you should get a TA for a road course car and keep your Porsche for the drag strip.

Agreed Completely,I am very impressed with the TAs .Hopefully Dodge will do a real Wow Factor like they did with the Hellcats on the 15 TAs and I will get one right away....

Thanks for posting

As a Gen 5 owner that putt putts along at the speed limit and never races, I am thankful to those that do track race their Gen 5s. Very exciting viewing....have to rest a while...let my elevated heart rate calm down.

Great vid Bruce...Nice to see these two track killers going at it regardless of mfg...I love both cars but there is no question which one is the top dog in track times between the two all things being equal.

Thanks. Guys at the track are always great. I didn't get a chance to meet this one, and rarely do this event. Don't even know if it was a GT3 or GT3 RS...suspect the latter or good mods from past experience. GT3's (and all 911's) are always great on corner exit and usually under braking (although I usually seem to have that advantage in the TA for some reason) with their weight over the drive wheels for traction and more rear brake bias. Data logs of all these laps show me lifting early at the end of that long straight and never reaching my normal speeds in order to keep a distance back, and you saw what happened when I used 2nd to actually "race" him down the straight. When you want to pass a fast car you usually communicate that with him by getting up close and filling his mirrors. At that point he'd rather let you go than spend his time worrying about you hanging off his bumper. I didn't sends him that message, but tried to make a clean pass on the straight. I doubt he saw me, or by the time he did figured I was coming anyways and didn't bother to give me the pass-by signal that I was waiting for. I enjoyed following him, was working on some new cornering techniques with a friend helping (distracting) me, and didn't want to worry about the GT3 hanging off of my back bumper! Lot of fast cars there, but only an ACR passed me driven by a comp coupe racer. The TA (and I'm sure all Gen V's) can truly dominate when driven with some skill....but it's entirely possible a well-driven 911 TS could kick my ass on any given day. And the PCA churns out an awful lot of very skilled drivers and club racers. I'll be on track with over 20 of them on their home track in a couple of weeks and may get my ass kicked relentlessly. Special video for you if that happens!

Two very completive machines (TA/991 TS) for sure on the Road Course(MPH Straights). If ya ever get down to South Florida,I would definitely roll around the track with ya in the 991 Turbo S.Couple of buddies of mine have Gen.5/Vipers,but I can not get them to the road race track( No Way will they drag race).I think they know what the results would be .Also, would do some laps with that Black TA in Miami any time and see what happens at Palm Beach or Homestead. ?????????

I also enjoy You and Nineball using the Gen.5 Vipers as it should be driven and posting the videos. I went yesterday and ran the pixxx out of the Turbo S,glad I made it thru it,pretty scary.
These types are cars are made to be run/all good fun....
