To make a long story short, a few weeks to a month later the car developed a rod knock with a little more than 5K miles on the odo. The engine had to be replaced. I wound up trading it back in to the original dealership that I bought it from and wound up with another brand new TA, this time a white one. Wasn't a fan of the white so I just sold it two days ago. Can't decide what to do next. With all the gen V engine failures lately, I'm really nervous about buying another one. But there's really nothing else out there that I want for the same $$$...

It's a 2009 GTR.

It's funny you should ask because I've been compiling a list. I'm aware of 12 in total including myself. This is just from the ones I've heard about on the forums. I'm sure there are a lot more. I'd love to know what the cause is. Or if it's something that's been fixed for 2015...

I have been researching g5s for the last year and really don't hear much about the rod knock issue. I love how you casually mention that your motor blew up in your initial post lol.

A buddy of mine in Calif spun bearings in his orange TA last month. Car ran fine for 5 months. his happened after some track time. I just wonder if the greater cornering ability of the TA is forcing an oil issue in a high speed corner? Remember the change in the Gen 4 oil pans and oil pick up? Maybe the TA needs more work to keep oil in the pump pick up in a high speed corner. Just a thought--Dave

This is the first TA or Gen V alleged engine failure that I have been made aware of. And I was not aware that a "rod knock" was equivalent to an engine blowing up. A bit of hyperbole perhaps?

Bruce has tracked his TA for hundreds, if not more than a thousand, miles, as shown by his posted videos, with flawless performance. I gave 135 miles of rides on the Homestead Speedway Road Course on November 22nd with the high speed banks of the third and fourth corners of the NASCAR track included without any issues arising. Tony has aggressively raced his Gen V as shown by the videos he has posted. So without specific proof of the other alleged failures you mention, I am a little skeptical. Another reason I am skeptical is that if there had been that many failures, I think Dodge would have issued a letter already to Gen V owners suggesting that they bring their car in and have it checked and that has not occurred.

If there were in fact that many failures, my money would be on the theory that the nannytech was turned off as much as allowed in each case and a torque management issue may have occurred.

Which dealership did you purchase the car from and how many miles were on it when the alleged failure occurred? Also, were you by any chance using launch control when it happened?
