Isn't this story from Sept 8? The SRT is $84,995 plus guzzler and dest = $89k. The GT is $99k.

Even with the gas guzzler tax...The starting price still beats the starting price on the 2014 and 2013 models brand new. Previously, dealers had to create incentives and rebates just to lure customers in to purchase 2014 models. Now for the 2015 models, none of that jargon is needed...

Vik, I don't see it. The ONLY 2015 Viper I see on Ebay at all, is the white base, non-GT w/ aero kit for $89,999. Can you post the link to the Green '15 GT? There is a '14 Green w/ Aero for $123k...???

Yeah my bad. Must've been the white one I was thinking of. There is another green with aero GT for 110k though.

Is it me but ISN'T all these coupons, and heavy discounting of the 2013 thru 2015 models just pushing down the resale value of ALL vipers ??!! Yes I hear a lot buying with the coupons but also I hear the used ones really being discounted as well and/or taking a big hit on the trade-in ...many states tax you on the coupon when you use it, and many dealership lobbiests have the states that give you tax credit on the trade in, this really makes it easier for the new car dealers to sell cars....how about the states giving you the tax credit if you sell a used car and give you 30 days to complete the new car purchase , then the states would take tax only on the differences...my $.02 wake up people !!

I believe the price drop and loyalty coupons are squarely aimed at reducing inventory and keeping the brand alive, which appears to have worked well these past few months...

Good idea. Arizona has no sales tax on a private party used car sale. That is the way to go. I don't know how this law got passed. There is no incentive for state legislators to eliminate tax income without enormous pressure from the voters, which would be hard to muster in this situation.

FinalEd...I agree with what you said about the coupons saving the brand....BUT if this now, what will the price be on the 2015, 16 ??? Etc....at some time, the new cars cost more each year because parts cost more, labor bosses have to make money, etc, and when prices go up, nice clean Vipers bring in good used prices, but how can you justify a nearly new VooDoo selling at $70K or whatever probably a 15K loss, I heard some people here telling people try to offer him under $65K , .....PLUS with this recent playing with coupons, discounts, dealers paying their floor plans for a car sitting for a year on the showroom floor, the same spot where they could have sold 20 vans, a couple of Jeeps, etc....back to my original concern someone once said " for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction " ....those buying now with the big discounts off MSRP, this can't continue, IF we want the Viper brand to continue...while dealers are getting used Vipers and doing big sales to move these cars....soon most dealers won't touch a new viper ( try to get one repaired with a viper tech ??!!) what we are forming is an exclusive dealers ONLY ( what maybe 10 dealers ??) will have the cars for sale, and if one needs warranty work, the car maybe needed to ship or transport miles to get repaired !! Also when the sales network is limited to a few dealers, what do you think will happen to sales and prices then ??? My $.02 only !!!

I agree. I also think that because of the huge loss many dealers are taking on the 13's they still have in stock that they will not order any more vipers unless it is a sold order and they know the customer will take the car when it comes in. This is not good for the Viper's future.

Think of housing prices a few years back. Prices kept falling because there were more sellers than buyers. Gov programs stepped in (like it or not) with HARP refinances and some other incentives to refi with no equity to keep pople in their homes, etc. and it slowed the selling down. Finally, once the foreclosure and shortsale inventory dropped, the market returned to a normal mix of buyers and sellers. Prices stabilized and then rebounded. I'm sure there are investos who went on waiting for the bottom of the housing market and missed it. We won't know the bottom of Viper prices until we are past it. Homes and Luxury cars are obviously not an apples to apples comparison, but I would say the argument is the same. Regardless of what these leftover 2013/2014s sell for, I believe the car is priced correctly now for future sales. Once 2013 leftovers are gone, they are gone. I believe there were nearly 500 new SRTs on autotrader in Sept. Now, there are less than half and dealers may be dumping to offset gains It is my opinion by this time next year, people buying at today's prices will have been well served and perhaps new cars are back in the $90+ range...

Of course it won't continue. As demand increases for the car(as it already has been), then the huge discounts will slowly go away since dealers won't be having issues selling their inventory. For the short term it ***** for anyone selling used, but if you're only selling to upgrade to GenV then it is all equal anyway since you will get a good deal on Gen5 for now.
