1992 RT/10 engine rebuild

Should ALL 1992's have had their engine rebuilt for the leaking ring issue? (IE, were they all "defective"?)

How far into 1993 was the issue prevalent?

Anyone know approximate cost to have rebuilt at this point, if it hasn't been done yet?

Also, is the side sill and side pipe cover 1 or two pieces? IE, can you replace the black part, without replacing the colored part of the side sill? or one piece?

The 92 cylinder leakage issue was common. Most of the 92's that went in for this issue under warranty had a new engine installed. The negative is you no longer have a vin matching engine. If you chose to have the engine rebuilt it was handled by Arrow. My early 93 was rebuilt by Arrow. The reason you do not hear much about this issue is that most of the 92's were rarely driven enough to put any miles on them. My 93 was rebuilt with around 4K miles on the engine.:usa:

The side sills are one piece. I took one off of my mom's 94 and masked off and repainted just the black part because of some scratches on it. Not really too hard to do. They're also pretty much the only metal body part on the car (aluminum), so you can do some repair work on them a little easier than some other body parts.

Speedracervr4 - They had known problems with both. One is definitely easier to fix than the other. And to Shelbyviper's point, many times with the ring issue, the resolution was a new engine.

I'm looking at a couple of 1992' and 1993's. Any thoughts on what it might cost to have this done today? I guess I can call Arrow... I would assume they kept records of all the engines that they did?

I don't mind picking one up that was rebuilt/replaced, as long as it comes with proper documentation. . . would prefer original, of course.

I recommend giving Arrow a call. I have had 3 Arrow rebuilds over the years with no issues. As for keeping old records,yes they do. I needed info on my 99 they did a rebuild on. Not only did they still have the rebuild info but the break in dyno sheets as well. Good Luck
