I would like to upgrade my front and rear speakers on my 1997 GTS coupe, but I don't want to do any modifications. I'd like them to just drop in and use the stock amp. I am looking to replace both the fronts and the rears. For the front, it would be great if I don't have to take the door panel off. I tried to look back at previous threads on this topic, but they were dated too far back and the speakers are no longer available. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, for the doors you should look for 6.0" woofers as the vast majority of 6.5" woofers will not fit without modification. I think that Kicker and JL Audio do have 6.0" component sets in their product range. However, they are usually not in their top line....

I purchased an older Alpine System (SPX-177R) via Ebay which almost dropped right in. Unfortunately, the basket of the woofer was a bit too deep so I had to fabricate an adapter ring to reduce installation depth. I also could not use the OEM grille anymore but the new grille coming with the new speakers looks much better anyway (I think).

For the rear, I believe 6.5" woofers should fit.

I did, but then decided to upgrade the amp (gutted the old one and used all existing wiring and casing). Search for that one too...

I also exchanged the stock amp. Actually, I am in the middle of another upgrade of my system. I am installing 2 Alpine Old School amps, one for the footwell sub and another one for the component system in the doors. At the same time I am relocating the crossover of the component system from previously being installed in the doors to the trunk. This way I can easily change the settings of the x-over and experiment a bit more with the sound. However, this requires quite some more cabling to be done.....

Sitll looks messy but I am also working on some cover panels so that once everything is complete, it looks nice and clean (no more cables visible).

Search for a thread of mine, I believe I posted the part numbers I used
As I'm doing more research, I'm noticing that a lot of the kicker 6" speakers are actually being measured as 6.5". Is this going to be an issue for fitting them in the doors without modding? I looked back at your previous posts, but I wasn't able to find a part number. Do you know what the model of your kickers speakers were? Thanks.
