Had it done on my car before going with full exhaust. Recommend having an H pipe put in to balance sound. Excellent bang for buck mod.

Eliminating the rear muffler, H/X pipe or not, will cause significant drone. Some hate it more than others. For me not a worthwhile trade.

A used Corsa 2.5" cat back is an economical and drone-less alternative.

I have corsa cat back, great drone free exhaust. i would never alter it. I have had loud cars before and the end result is less enjoyment while driving adding headache and other nonsense

It really depends on the overall setup?
Are you still running stock headers and cats?

If yes, then def do yourself a favor and remove those rear mufflers.

Also, do you have any future plans for performance add-ons?

I've done what you are considering and love it on my 97. It's super easy, I'd suggest you do it, and see if you like it. If too much drone, you can add an h-pipe or a resonator in later.

I changed nothing else on my 97 exhaust, and love the sound, still pass emissions, and deleted about 10 lbs.

While I currently drive that one about 100 miles a year, I put about 30k miles on this setup on it, there is some drone in the ~3k range, but I think it sounds cool.

3"Headers going into a 2.5" stock cat then reduced down to 2.25" stock piping and muffler.

Yea... Thats not ideal

I would install a 3"hi-flow ceramic cat (not metal substrate) and some type of 3" system the rest of the way back. Basically a full aftermarket setup :)

Excluding Corsa, The aftermarket setups have a decent drone that annoy some people and others not. Reason being that they all use similar straight-thru perforated-tube mufflers that are not good at reducing the lower frequencys.
