Need help, I'd like to swap in a Gen4 or 5 engine & Trans into a Gen2 GTS. What problems will i run into? Engine to hood cleareance, fire wall, Trans
mount. What wiring issue's? Steering column length - GEN2 compared to 4 & 5?
I recently purchased a 99 Viper gts track car. Minus engine & transmission. Wanted to know if there are any wrecking yards in the sacremento area that sell viper drivetrain & salvage cars?
Has anyone swapped a Gen 4 or 5 engine into a gen 2?
Also has anyone swapped the dash from a gen 4 or 5 into a gen 2?
Anyone have dimensions of a gen 4 or 5 dash & center console?
Looking to buy a salvage car with rearend damage only.
Also anyone have a link to the wiring schematics for a 99 gts?

Any info on any of these things would help a lot.
Thanks, Joe.

I don't think it has been done yet. You are close to Vayala Racing in San Jose. Ask for Ted. I think the wiring will be a nightmare and engine management with have to be a stand alone.

Might be easier to put in a Gen 2 short block and add Gen 4 heads/intake. You will get close to 600 RWHP. Dan at Viper specialties just did one.

If you have the money to do this just go buy a gen 5...... it will be cheaper.

The electronics are not compatible. Gen 5 motor mounts are completely different. You might want to consider putting GEN 4 / GEN 5 Heads. I did it.

If you still want to do this and money is no object I would start by contacting Viper Specialty Performance if you want the job to be turn key.

Arrow Racing can rebuild your engine as well if you want to do all of the pulling of the engine and other various installation items.

Thanks, I called Valaya racing today & got ahold of a guy named Mario that was able to answer some questions for me. Ted was busy, but I'm expecting a call tomorrow or the next day. I went on the Arrow Racing Engines and checked out the kit for a Gen-3 setup but did not see one for a Gen-2? Do you know if the bolt or stud pattern on the heads are the same? That looks like a great cost effective way to put the HP up. I would like at least 600HP engine to put in the car. My budget on the car is only 15-20k. The car needs a lot of work so i imagine its going to eat that money up pretty quick. I know the car is going to cost a lot more then that but I'm trying to have it start & stop with the budget i have.

Thanks for the information. I wish money was no object but it definetly is. Ha. Yeah i have done more then few engine swaps, never on a viper though. I wouldn't think it would be hard, but would like to know any problems ill run into during the install. Can I
drop the engine & transmission in at once? Thanks.

Hello Joe,

What you are looking to accomplish is extremely, and I mean- extremely difficult, expensive, and time consuming. As pointed out above, the engine management, wiring, and electronics are nowhere near even remotely compatible between those generations. You would be 15-25K into engine management, wiring, and electronics alone, not even considering the engine itself or physical fitment.

You would be far better off with some type of a Gen-2 to Gen-4 conversion, which utilizes the engine block, management, and most of the wiring from the current generation car you are working with. Costs will still likely crush your budget however, as you need to locate an engine as well as the modification components. The end result will exceed the raw power numbers of a stock Gen-4 or 5 engine if executed properly.
