Guess I'm more of an optimist and believe the only thing killing Vipers is bad drivers and Chevy sponsored publications. By in large, the buzz is still there, it's just on that loser site call Facebook were good conversations go to die.

FB is not just for losers anymore. Highly intelligent individuals with a penchant for making money and engaging in assholery can be found too....and I haven't seen anything Viper related there.
Car will be built through 2017, and though we are getting bombarded by all the folks coming up with ultra negative reasons, and wacky theories, I will bet money when all is said and done it is because of all the EPA mandates ( not all are fuel related , by the way ) coming due around then.....plus the coincidence that the 8.4 is approved through 2017. Logic, common sense, within the automotive industry , seems to be headed towards fewer and fewer V8s and larger -- doesn't take much to see the trend and fight the manufacturers are waging when you will get a turbo V6 in a new Ford GT. Do I know the exact reason, no, but we spend so much time today coming up with fanciful reasons for the demise of everything, and sometimes it is just a simple course mandated by change within an industry. Nuff said, and just my humble opinion.

If I know those Viper engineers, I would bet that more than one of them are working on ideas to extend or re invent the V-10 and allow the Viper program to continue.
Last time, when the Viper was over an done with, Ralph took up the quest to re design the car and sold it to Sergio. Without him, the project would have been done for.
Maybe it will be a super efficient electric turbo or even supercharger. Maybe the injection of a special fuel additive like is being done with the diesels. Their are many ways to make a big engine like this more clean burning while even making it more powerful and efficient.
Might be a hybrid system with some battery components. Something fresh and new. Could end up with a sports car that people all over the world would clamor for.
Ferrari is currently re imagining their entire lineup of cars. Even working of a SUV (gasp). This could also be done by dodge, as they might have nothing to lose by reaching for the moon.
This technology could be rolled out in the Gen VI, sorted out, then applied to other vehicles in the Fiat line.
We have seen this done over and over again by the Team Viper faithful. Maybe they have just one more rabbit to pull out of their engineering hat. Bon Chance!

I think FCA lost too much money on this generation to go past 2017.

There are lots of news reports that Viper will stop production in 2017; but, I think that although they are probably good assumptions, I think that they are based on a line in the UAW - Chrysler contract that says that the Conner Ave plant will close in 2017 rather than a line that says that Viper will cease production.
There is one news outlet that states the facts in a more factual way though. I guess it is because it is a more technical site, which is more oriented toward fact based stories.

I don't want it to end, but if somehow that's fate, I will still love viper. I will still have my car and I'm gonna drive the crap out of it and have the time of my life.
From a stylistic standpoint, the GenV went back to its Gen2 iconic roots. I personally looked at it as a "tribute" car when it first came out as it looks like a modern day Gen2. A lot of forum members expressed disdain because of this. The next generation will have to stand alone from a design standpoint and have all the latest tech and DCT. The car has to make an individual have a tingling feeling in their reproductive organs. It has to make the average Joe schedule an appointment with their accountant to discuss the feasibility of purchase. Kids have to want a poster of the car on their bedroom wall. If it can't be on top, then DONT BUILD IT

Does the Union contract specifically say the Viper is finished or does it merely say that Connor will be closing? It is possible that a redesigned and reengineered Viper could be made utilizing a less handmade approach. It is also possible that such a beast could be rebranded as a subtype of Ferrari and made in Italy.
It is hard to believe that Dodge will not have an answer to the Z Vette and the highest output Mustang for road racing. The Gen V came out in 2013. My guess is that Dodge/SRT has at lest been tossing around ideas for a replacement road course vehicle.
I would like to see a Hellcat engine powered vehicle with either a six speed or an 8 speed auto available. Design wise, it would be interesting to see something similar to the ME412. Another way to look at this news is that the Viper is guaranteed to be produced for at least 2 more years.
After that time production at Conner Ave plant will be discontinued.
I am sure they will be looking at all their options to continue the brand up till that facility is closed.
The current V-10 powerplant will run out of emissions conpliance at that time too.
It is entirely possible that the Viper will be due (perhaps overdue) for a rethink. Something with a broader (or even narrower) market.
A different engine/transmission combination altogether. Maybe rear/mid engine, perhaps electric power augmentation. Perhaps electric forced induction. Lots of options.

Oh God, I can barely tolerate the thought of a Hellcat engine in a viper. I can hardly believe it's being suggested. If you want a Hellcat engine buy a hellcat.
It is it's own niche. I agree some changes need to be made but....... if adapting to the masses is necessary with an auto paddle shifter option, to make it
"driver friendly " for those who just can't drive a manual I still have to say BooHoo
. It is exclusive because it is only a manual. Change up the styling and make engine changes better than a Hellcat. Just saying.
When you really think about it, the Viper needs to be completely futuristic. We have the older cars if we want to remain "purists". Lots of money will have to be spent on any redesign and I wouldn't bet that all that money will be spent to sell a few cars to a miniscule group of ass wipes, (excluding Broomrider).

Well, if you understand the true nature of the situation and take a long gaze at the grand scheme, the Viper must transcend...or hibernate until it has the ability to do so.
