Has anyone replaced their Gen II steering wheel with a Gen I? Is it possible? I like the look of the steering wheel without the chunky airbag in the middle of the steering wheel.

Won't pass most state inspection and will raise questions about being wrecked at resale time. Plus why give up the safety of the airbag for looks?

The other option is putting the Gen III steering wheel on the Gen II. Reportedly takes only a little modification, and supposedly the airbag harness connector is the same. The Gen III doesn't have as chunky looking airbag as the Gen II.

Well I used to have a 67 mustang fastback and all the those muscle cars lacked all the safety features of today's cars. They were just raw cars with straight line performance and beautifully sculpted lines. They demanded respect and attention to driving at all times. A real joy to ride. In part this is what drew my attention the the Viper. Its unrefined nature and no" foo-foo" amenities. Which is why I like the Gen 1 steering wheel.
