I'm starting to look for an enclosed auto transport company to ship my future viper. I'm looking for recommended companies and companies I should stay away from so if you have had either bad or good experiences with companies that offer this type of service please share.

I used Gran Turismo ... Ask for Mark. My Viper ws treated well and shared the ride with Italian toys. Pricing was very reasonable Fl to Ct.
Make sure you price straps only no chains on frame.

I just used Reliable Carriers less than one month ago, Ohio to New Mexico ($1450.00) without a scratch.. Contact Al Abrims , he was great to work with and I was kept updated throughout the pickup, transport and delivery. The driver, Rick Quye kept in touch while he was on the road, providing travel progress and making arrangements for delivery. Rick dropped the car at my doorstep, he also shared great stories on all of the cars he has delivered over the years.

I've used several. The last shipment I used Intercity Lines and was VERY IMPRESSED. I would not hesitate to have them transport another car for me. The drivers were very professional, the car was very well protected, and the price was reasonable as well.

For VOI 11 the VCA used Passport as thier official carrier. The crew from Omaha shipped 5 out with them with no issues.

Intercity Lines is top-shelf and very reasonable. I was truly amazed and impressed about how careful they were with my car. I can see why Jay Leno uses them for his cars.

I've used these folks twice, once from Miami to San Antonio and secnd from Hollywood to San Antonio. $1000/each. Both enclosed. Vehicle received within 3 days without a scratch. The one that came from Hollywood is extremely low to the ground, not a problem. The one that came from Miami rode on top of some brand new Bentley making a tour to the dealerships. Call Laci. (these are 6 car semis)

Another option is to call Bill at Woodhouse - their guy transports so many cars all over you may be able to catch a back haul and save money (it's a mom & pop with a single car trailer)

I used Reliable on my last Viper, over 2,000 miles, had it in 4 days, no issues. Price was competitive with lesser transports.

hands down carshipperusa. Ask for glenn and tell him John from nj told you to go to him. He will get you the best price and the best service (hard side enclosed with lift gate). . I shipped 12-15 cars with him. All being either vipers, corvettes, and a ford gt

PASSPORT TRANSPORT was the Official Carrier of VOI11 and will be the official Carrier of VOI12. They have supported our club with advertising through the past two years as well, a true partner!
http://passporttransport.com/ Check it out even George Barris recommends Passport ! They have 3 trailers in their fleet that I've seen with Vipers on them! 2 were the VOI rigs!

Passport Transport “Sand Bagged” my pickup for 3 weeks, I was always the next pickup inline but they never arrived at the dealer. (Read the online reviews regarding Passport Transport this is common) after I canceled the pickup order the routing Mgr. admitted I had not even made the Driver Assignment list after a 3 week wait.
I just wanted to share my experience… Jeff

What everyone said on Intercity... Top Notch!!! used them on a motorcycle shipment too. I was treated to a personal car show with that one as there were a couple Dusenbergs and some classic Ferraris on board when it was delivered :omg: Viper had a Mazda Miata along for the ride :crazy2: shape it was in couldn't have even been worth the shipping cost?

Passport Transport worked great for our Ohio group out to VOI 11. They also have GPS so you can flow your car via your computer as it makes its trip. :)

Intercity Lines is top notch

My Viper is literally on one of their trucks right now. :D

It took them about a month between booking and car pick up though, but that's apparently because it took them a while to fill up a truck for the northwest. They don't get out this way that often I guess. If you're in other parts of the country, I imagine they'd be faster.

Passport just dropped my car off last Friday afternoon. Could not be happier with any aspect of the transaction. From Neil Pitt (the owner) who I spoke with personally to John Bray (JB) to driver Dave Erickson and his associate Rick, they were first class and professional but also very friendly and sincerely interested in my satisfaction. I am going to have them take my car from FL to NY at the end of April so that should give you an idea of how pleased we were. I would recommend them very highly. Be sure to tell them you are a member of the VCA.

I wanted to update this thread to help anyone shipping a Viper in the future. After I booked my order with intercity lines about 5 weeks ago, they had a lot of trouble to fill up a truck to go pick up my viper. Not really the fault of Intercity lines I'm sure they offer a top notch service. Maybe IA to WA is a very uncommon route. All shipping companies try to minimize their costs by allocating multiple orders on their routes to keep their trucks full, serve as many customers in parallel as possible and keep their prices down.

Although I obviously really wanted for the car to be here as soon as possible I tried to be very patient with Intercity Lines but after 4 weeks I decided to contact a few other top notch companies (Passport Transport, Horseless Carriage, Grand Turismo Motorsports, Exotic car transport and Reliable Carriers). I contacted all of this companies at once explaining the situation and telling them I need the car picked up and shipped as soon as possible. Speed had higher priority over price. Only Passport Transport replied with a positive response saying that they could pick up the car that same week so I placed an order with them and they picked up the car this weekend. All other companies replied saying they either do not run the route or would put me in the same situation I was already in.

My recommendation for anyone shipping a car in the future is not only to get quotes from several companies but to ask them for an estimated pick up date. Most companies won't be able to provide you with a date but if you are in luck and one of them has a nearly full truck they might be in a position to respond to you with a very close date. Below is the email history of how all of this went down.

Hello,

I'm looking for an auto transport company to ship my 2005 dodge viper from Bettendorf, IA (52722) to Kirkland, WA (98033) on a enclosed transport. Four weeks ago I shop around for shipping quotes with all of you and I booked my order with Intercity Lines. While I'm sure they offer a top notch service and they have been very kind to me, they haven't been able to fill up a truck to fulfill my order and ship my car to me. So unfortunately I find my self in a position where I need to look for other options. I'm really sorry to address you all at once but I'm very busy at work and I figured this would be the fastest way to get this resolved.

I'd like to know if any of you at:

HorselessCarriage,
PassportTransport
Grand Turismo Motorsports,
Exotic car transport,
Reliable Carriers

Are in a position where you have enough orders already placed so that if I book my order with you, you would pick my car up and ship it to me in the next few days/weeks. If you are please let me know so I can get a quote and book an order.

Best personal regards,

Tony

Unfortunately I do not have good news for you. At this point you may want to look into alternate options as we still only have 3 orders booked and nothing new for several weeks now. I am sorry we have been unable to book additional orders to fill out the truck, and get your Viper moving for you. Try checking with one of our fellow competitors:

Horseless Carriage @ 800-631-7796
Passport Transport @ 800-325-4267

If you happen to book with one of them can you please let us know so we can cancel your order for you.

Hello Jim,

It's been a month now since I placed my order so I thought I would touch base to see if there is any updates. Have any of the required orders been booked yet?

The owner had to move the car to a storage facility so each week this is on hold is costing me money. I'm hoping you have some good news for me.

Tony,
Unfortunately yes one order cancelled, I can’t say how long it will be, it really depends on getting a few more orders to fill out the truck. I would say based on previous experience it should only be a few weeks, but really dependent on getting the truck full. I can appreciate that you want the car as soon as possible and the seller wants his garage space back, the only way to speed up the process for us is if you were to buy the remaining 3 spots which would not be cost prohibitive for you. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

Jim,

Does this means. One of the orders you had was cancelled? I recall you previously said we were waiting for two more cars not three.

What happens if no orders are book in the next few weeks or in a month or two? would you wait indefinitely?

I'm sorry for the push but the seller needs the space back in his garage and I'd like for the car to be here as soon as possible. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?

Thank you,
Tony

At the moment we have 4 cars booked heading to the NW, we need to get 2 more orders booked before we can get a truck heading that way. Timing will depend on getting 2 more orders it could be a couple of days, it could be another week or two.

Tony,
Thanks for the inquiry and to answer your questions:

1. We need you to email or fax back your CC authorization form as we run CC’s here in the office.

2. We contact the seller/shipper 2-3 days prior to pick up once we have a driver assigned and know his schedule. Once the vehicle is loaded the driver will contact you to let you know it has been picked up and a tentative delivery time frame.

3. At the moment we have 4 cars booked heading to the NW, we need to get 2 more orders booked before we can get a truck heading that way. Timing will depend on getting 2 more orders it could be a couple of days, it could be another week or two.

4. The car is only driven to load and unload, they do not take test drives, me notate the mileage at the time of pick up.

5. Yes we have experience with really low cars, that is why we only liftgate load cars. Also most drivers carry wood to allow them to handle low ground clearance cars.

6. You cannot track your order, but you will have a coordinator here in the office for the driver that gets assigned and they will be able to update you on the status of your driver.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

Hello Jim,

I've never shipped a car before so I've a couple of questions:

1. I've printed the authorization form but I'm not sure what to do with it. Do you need me to sign and email it to you or will I just hand it in at delivery?

2. How do I know when the car will be picked up and delivered? I'm guessing you will schedule an appointment with the point of contact at the car location but how will I know when it'll happen.

3. I'm guessing the company tries to come up with an optimal route to serve multiple customers in parallel but I'm wondering... Is there like a maximum time you will wait for more orders before picking up the car?

4. Other than to get the car into and out of the transport would the car be driven at all, this being a 560 hp car with no traction or stability control I'm concerned about someone wrecking the car while performing an unauthorized test drive.

5. Do ya have experience with really low cars? as I said the car is lowered and you may need a low profile jack and some boards to get it into the transport unit.

6. What's the best way to track the progress of my order?

Tony.

I had a pretty much identical experience with Intercity Lines but I sucked it up and waited it out. Ended up taking about 4 weeks but I couldn't be happier with the actual service, besides the delay of course. I guess they don't get many orders to this part of the country.

Sorry to see her go, and it seems that she will be in good hands. Driver took extra care getting it on the truck. Glad we got lucky as they only gave me 2 hours notice that they were in the area.

To add to my reply from about four weeks ago (above), Passport just moved my car again...this time from SW FL to upstate NY. They were flexible enough to assist me with a last minute change in our schedule and picked my car up much earlier than I had contracted for and safely and courteously brought it to our upstate NY home this past Wednesday afternoon. You are able to follow the progress of your move via their GPS on the trucks. The driver arrived on time and even dusted my car off with a California car duster after getting it on the ground. Two moves within six weeks and I couldn't be more impressed and pleased with the service, communication and customer focused attitude. Thanks to everyone at Passport for a great experience.

I know this is an older thread, but I found it through the search fucntion and was curious if anyone had any input about this company? https://www.a1autotransport.com/services/enclosed-auto-transport.php I'm new to this whole car shipping thing and still figuring things out a bit. I may try some of the others in this thread to compare too, but if anyone has any more recent info, it would be much appreciated.

I haven't log in here in a while and was surprised to see the thread a the top. I haven't use A1 transport but my recommendation is choose a set of your top five companies (based on reviews and such) and choose the one that can pick it up quicker. You might get lucky and find one that is able to do the route you need and has enough cars in route to pick it up within days.

Reliable , Passport or Intercity , all are used to doing Vipers. All new Vipers are shipped to Dealers by Reliable. Depends on where you live , to some degree , on pricing , but Reliable does have the most distribution hubs. The Passport owner has a Viper himself. Intercity is out of Massachusetts so they are good on the East Coast especially. Stay away from the Brokers, as they will go with cheapest and you may find your Snake put on an open transport for part of the trip.
