There is a posting for a 2014, white with black stripes and carbon fiber package asking $68k.
Vin # 1c3adeazxev100186
I did some research here on this forum and this car is mentioned before "BAD CARFAX".
Does anyone have more info on this car? In pictures it looks great.

I emailed the seller and he made no mention of any title issues or buy backs.
I would think that is dishonest of the seller, his ad didn't have the VIN, now I know why.

I would have no problem with a buy back. If it can be demonstrated that the issue has been corrected why not? Would appear to be a good purchase decision.

The car has a new engine and a 3 yr. 90k factory warranty. You won't get a better deal than this on a low mile GenV.

That was my thread. The dealer is dishonest. He told me they sold that car to a local buyer when I started asking too many questions. The car has been for sale since April at least.
There were other issues with it as well.

Ron, From appearances of the seller's Facebook posts, the car appears to be for sale now by a private party in a different state. It could be a ruse by the dealer, or it could be the person who the dealer sold the car to. He posted it for sale on the VCA facebook page and is upfront about the engine replacement and the buyback.

I emailed the seller and he made no mention of any title issues or buy backs.

What, specifically, did you ask him? Did you ask him if the carfax showed a buyback or if the title showed some sort of annotation? It is not dishonest on the part of the seller to answer only the questions that you ask to be answered. It is not up to him to decide what you might care about or decide what you may have already learned about the car that is in the public domain. IMHO. By the way, his posts of the car on facebook clearly do mention the buyback, assuming that we are talking about the car that has 6500 miles, so, he is not hiding the fact.

Good luck with your search.
Some people would consider a 2014 Viper that was subject to the r28 recall and has had the engine replaced to be more desirable than a 2013 or 2014 that has not had the engine replced. IMHO.

I asked the seller if the car is perfect in every way. His answer was yes.
Only after that when reading posts on this forum I made the connection with the buy-back issue.
Maybe if it was a better price it would be worth it but at his asking of $68k, I am going to pass.

I couldn't agree more.

If the car had engine replaced without buy-back (lemon) on car-fax, it would have been much better for the value of the car, I would think.

The only issue I see with having the engine replaced, due to recall would be it's not the original. Yes it has a fresh heart but the value in my opinion would be affected.
Just my thoughts.

If you are going to buy the car to drive and keep forever go for it. If you plan on getting something else in a couple years stay away. I looked at a couple of cars just like this before I bought mine. Great deals and the cars were great cars. The issue is if you try to sell it you are pretty much stuck with it. Look at what you are doing hitting up the forum asking about it. Thats what every person that looks at that car will do. You lose 95% of buyers with a buy back car. If you are going to keep take the bargain.

How would the average buyer of a used Viper know that the engine had been replaced due to a r28 recall situation?

Carfax will list it, as will a simply VIN check at any Dodge dealer.
There's a concerned CarFax listings are not updated correctly.

I doubt that Carfax will list it. The two cars that I am aware of having replaced engines don't list it. (including this one.) I very much doubt that average buyers would know to run the VIN at a Dodge dealer. I have never heard of doing that before I started following the Viper forums.

But, I agree that the subset of potential buyers who have researched the Gen V Viper on the forums might be aware of the engine issue.

The salesman was not nice or interested once he heard I had a car to trade in. He was very anxious to get rid of that car. It's a shame because I liked the whit with the limited striping it had...but the sketchy salesman turned me off anyhow.
