Gen 2 Fuel Pump Always Running with key ON engine OFF

Hey Team need your help to understand why my 1998 Gen 2 fuel pump keeps running with the key ON but before I crank the engine.
The car starts and runs ok but if my memory serves me right, the fuel pump would stop after a couple seconds, rather than keep running.
I also get a stored code of P1282. I clear the fault and when I turn key ON and start the car I get the P1282 fuel pump code again. How can I keep this code from appearing.

I replaced the pump module relay and ASD relay, no change.
Also disconnected and reconnected the positive and negative jump cables under the hood at the fuse box location.
No change :-( I still get continuous pump running and P1282 fault.

If your plan was to attempt to "reset" PCM, disconnecting cables at "jump" location will do nothing. You can either disconnect cables at battery, or unplug pcm ...noting that it is recommended to remove battery cables before unplugging pcm.

I disconnected the battery and unplugged the 3 connectors on the side of the pcm.
After reinstalling the connectors and hooking up the battery I still have the same issue.
I cleared the fault code with the handheld. The fuel pump runs continuously with the key ON before I crank the engine.
I get a fault code P1282 fuel pump relay. Any ideas what is the cause of the fault?

I found the cause to be the pump relay wire (brown), which is normally grounded through the PCM, was cut off PMC conn P1 pin 19 and attached directly to the main grd post below the PCM.
This allows the fuel pump to be continuously ON when the key is ON prior to starting the engine... which I think is a good thing.... to prevent only the 0.5 second ON time that the PCM allows if no crankshaft rotation signal is received (engine not rotating). Being on longer than the 0.5 sec ensures enough time for adequate fuel pressure at the engine prior to starting AND if you don't hear it the pump running you know something else is wrong. With the ignition in the ACC position the pump is OFF, so you can play the radio, etc without the pump running. The car runs great. This modification appears to be done by a dealership (prior to my ownership) as the connection looks professional.

Congratulations ! By the way, there have been quite a few reports of failed check valves on fuel pumps. Your car's modification may have been one person's solution to that problem.

Thanks. The other solution you show is very complex and an added box. Mine is extremely simple and can be easily put back to production configuration :)

I any one wants help with this, please let me know.

I did the primer timer. Not complex at all. Works great and doesn't defeat the safety element of having ASD capability.
