A pop, then no-go

Hi everyone,

So today while driving my 94 RT/10, I was rolling very slowly forward, waiting for my turn to take a left at an intersection, and when I gave it some gas to go, I heard a pop underneath me, and then the car wouldn't move (engine was fine, but no power to the wheels).

Once I got it home, I determined that the driveshaft still rotates while in gear, but no power to the wheels, and a clicking/thumping sound is coming from the differential when the driveshaft is rotating.

So, it seems like a differential issue. I've been doing searches, but curious if anyone has gone through this before, if there might be a specific/singular issue with gen I differentials, etc.

Any help or insight is much appreciated...!

Thanks,
Travis

Almost sounds like you sheared some teeth off the ring gear. Otherwise it would seem like at least one rear wheel would be turning, even with broken spider gears.

Thanks for the insight...wasn't sure if this was a known Viper issue that I hadn't heard of.

Hoping to get under the car in the next few days.

I would say NO...broken differentials were/are NOT common on stock Gen I Vipers that have had good maintenance, and that have not been chronically abused.

Do you know car's history? How about mileage?

The car has a little over 36,000 miles on it. The history information I have is "good" history, no known issues, clean Carfax, etc...but certain things could have been left out or not reported. After I bought it, I did find my way to some old pictures of it where it had been doing some donuts, so that made me raise an eyebrow.
