Before I jumped into diagnosis, I figured I'd ask the audience if this is a common issue. While autocrossing my 93 RT/10 for the first time yesterday, I noticed a fuel smell. I noticed evidence of it on the side of the car coming from the fuel filler. I opened the fuel door and there was evidence of fuel sitting in there too.

Is this is known issue, and is it as simple as a new fuel cap, or does it have something to do with the venting of the tank? The car had 3/4 tank of fuel.

Just curious if it's a common issue and if so what a common fix is, before I dig into it further myself.

I'll say, the car was SO MUCH FUN to autocross. I've autocrossed for years, in many different cars, and this was one of, if not the most enjoyable cars I've ever driven. The "unfortunate" thing is I'll have to keep autocrossing to see if whatever fixes I try fix the issue. Oh darn.

Thanks in advance if anyone has some guidance here.

Steve

Just changed the hose down to my tank because it was leaking, 2000 rt/10. Common issue on your 93 is a rubber grommet that leaks. Type in 1993 Dodge Viper fuel tank grommet on google and you should find one.

Your dealer can order a new grommet for you...fits 92-97...they come 2 per package, but dealer can sell you one for about $7.00.
