Hello all,
I am in the market for a Gen 2 viper and decided on the 01/02 year because of the ABS addition. I have been shopping for an ACR but after doing some research I’m finding them to be the same as a GTS but with a higher price tag. Just to note: when I plan on getting my viper, if it’s stock I want to do a few upgrades to it, you know the basics (intake, exhaust, headers). Do you guys recommend doing upgrades to an ACR or is it better to have stock for collection purposes? If I get a GTS there is no question on doing some upgrades, but is it recommended for the ACR? Also, what’s the recommendation in where to buy one (forums, dealer, auction, etc)?

I do not think that a Gen 2 ACR has the kind of extra value that Gen 4 and 5 ACRs have unless it is a very low mile, stock example. By now, many have had their shock absorbers replaced because they tend to leak and rebuild cost is expensive and if they have already been rebuilt, that doesn't mean that they aren't due for a follow up, if they are a car that someone often drives. I really like the BBS wheels, and that is a good reason to buy one for a bit higher price; but, if you are going to change wheels; then that takes out almost 50% of what makes it an ACR. With the way the Viper market has moved into an investment market, I would suggest leaving a stock ACR stock, or, easily returnable to stock. (i.e., have the original parts available for the buyer when you sell, unless you are willing to sell it for a "run-of-the-mill" GTS price, whatever that will be.)
