1993 RT/10 Long cranking when starting/ fuel pressure issue

I thought I'd update this since Ive made some mistakes and it has caused me some headaches. The first lesson. Don't use polyethylene for fuel pump hose. It softens. Mine split at the pump right where the clamp was. Fortunately and miraculously, it happened in my driveway. My new avatar is...

    Hood Gaps

That!! Is a nice job! Ive wondered about just shimming the headlamps on my 94. Those are motivating results.

    Gasoline pressure control valve

Something you may want to check is your fuel pressure while the engine is running. When my pressure regulator was leaking, there were 2 symptoms; the long crank times, plus the pressure was all over the place.

    Troubleshoot tips. Battery loosing voltage.

All sounds good. Battery is surely in good enough shape to check alternator via the aforementioned method Re:AC. The ECU controls the AC clutch and in tandem, the ECU also controls the radiator fan when AC is called for. That fan draws several amps. It is quite plausible that if the ECU is...

    Troubleshoot tips. Battery loosing voltage.

Happened to talk with my viper tech last night. Referring once again to this: https://autoprollc.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/5-RemyTechnicalBulletin_July_web.pdf The gen 2 has a “dual field” type A oval connector. One of the pins on that oval connector will be tied to 12v, probably...

    Troubleshoot tips. Battery loosing voltage.

Yeah, what is the state of the battery and belt? And you said you measured B+. With it running? Or would it not run unless jumped More bits of info for you: Various part numbers for the same thing. And this is externally regulated as the description notes. So if it's not the alternator...

    Troubleshoot tips. Battery loosing voltage.

Viper Gen 2 alternator part number 4848662AB Looks pretty viper specific

    Troubleshoot tips. Battery loosing voltage.

RE: The link I posted regarding Chrysler generator testing: I have a gen 1 and the ECU doesn't have any control over charge current/voltage. Its done in a standard way with the regulator internal to the alternator and and 3 pins; (IG - ignition, S - Vsense, L - lamp, I only have the gen 1...

    Gasoline pressure control valve

If you’ve not solved this yet... yes, I’ve done this and it solved my problem. Viperstore has a replacement pressure regulator. It’s not an exact fit. It has a larger ‘can’ diameter, and slightly smaller diameter insert neck. The former is not a problem and the latter is easily solved with...

    Troubleshoot tips. Battery loosing voltage.

Suspicion of the alternator is reasonable. But so is ECU control over the charge current. See the following general description. Such a problem could be the field control wire(s) continuity from alternator to ECU, ECU itself, or alternator. A way to test the alternator is given with some...

    Seeking 1994 to 1998 Dodge Viper RT10

I picked a 94 RT/10 for $31k about 4 months ago. 35k miles, leaking head gasket, grabby clutch, leaking in tank fuel regulator, noisy diff, Deceleration trans whine in all gears but 4th, nearly perfect frame and paint. I've fixed its problems mostly. Trans/Diff to do yet Cost is mostly...

1993 RT/10 Long cranking when starting/ fuel pressure issue

One additional thing I'd note is: getting from tank on the ground, back to a point where you can test it, is all of 10 minutes. Slide the tank 1/2 way in and insert pump & level sender connector. Slide all the way in and connect vacuum line and fuel out line on the left. Then the filler-tube...

1993 RT/10 Long cranking when starting/ fuel pressure issue

Ok!!! Pump module is back together. I used 1/4 I.D. polyethylene clear tubing. I understand from some reading that polyethylene is "good" but not "very good" for gasoline. I put the tubing over the 3/8 barbs using some almost boiling water. 2 cinch clamps at each end of the tubing...

1993 RT/10 Long cranking when starting/ fuel pressure issue

The first time, it took me most of a day to get it out. Since my fix seemed to change nothing, I did it a day later in about an hour (which did not include the trunk panel). The speedup mostly came from learning how to take the splash guards out. Now why twice? So the first time I identified...

1993 RT/10 Long cranking when starting/ fuel pressure issue

Old thread but I thought I could share may experience in going after the root cause of this issue. If you have long crank times and you have confirmed it's due to fuel bleed down, the most likely cause is 1) the check ball within the fuel pump, 2) (or more likely) the pressure regulator leaks...
