I have seen filters form a hairline crack in the rolled seam where the can meets the top. A lot of testing was done on oil filters and SRT came out with their own filter. My second choice would be a Wix gold. I believe they have been purchased by Mann but still should be a good choice.
I would venture the warm startup prime shot is too large. But if I recall correctly there is no prime shot above a certain coolant temperature. The injector fueling rate may have drifted over time and small pulsewidths may now be too large or they are leaking slightly. It certainly appears to...
The moisture on cold start is normal and is a byproduct of the combustion process. All engines do it. The black spots is most likely the moisture picking up soot in the exhaust system and is not an indicator of running rich.
The decel popping could be how the calibration is done. If the...
That sounds like the fuel pump outlet check valve is leaking. When the car is shut off the fuel line should remain pressurized. It could also be the regulator.
The damper must be seated all the way before torquing the bolt. There is a tool to do this. Trying to pull the damper on with the bolt will not bottom it. That is why it comes loose. It wasn't assembled properly.
How high were the intake charge temperatures? The engine becomes more knock sensitive with elevated temperatures and pulls spark and adds fuel to compensate. If I remember correctly this starts to happen about 95 degrees F intake charge temp.
Chassis dynos are notorious for not having...
Chris unhooked the rear swaybar for the wet skid pad and he is deeply regretting it. The car oversteered badly resulting in the poor performance. But he is a man possessed and with some help will knock Davia off the top of the heap.
After working on these engines for the last couple of years I would venture to say that you should be able to pull some fuel out, maybe quite a bit, at top end with headers. I never got the chance to run any headers but I would expect them to want the exhaust cam timing to have an earlier...
Never,EVER put a cam in without degreeing it in (unless it's your lawnmower). There can be significant power to be had so make sure it is correct. A stock '00-'06 cam should have the intake centerline at 120-122. You will find a lot of them at 127-128 and it kills the torque curve down low...
The engine is basically the same design but many features are very different. The fasteners are now all metric. The pushrod angle has changed. The lifter bores have rotated upward with respect to the cam bore centerline to straighten out the pushrod angle. The oil pump is larger and the way...
I ran into a couple of writers today from C&D magazine at my new place of employment. I asked how their tests went on the '08 Viper and they said it's the fastest car they've tested. They didn't elaborate on that but I want to see the article next month.
There will be another Viper...
I've driven the '08 before I retired and it is definitely a better driver than the '06. The transmission is so nice compared to the earlier cars. And the engine is well behaved at low speeds and when you unleash it with the throttle hang on. It pulls strong right to the rev limiter. The...
The exhaust manifolds could be better but the package is very tight when installing the powertrain into the vehicle. A lot of work went into optimizing the design but there is no comparison to a set of headers.
Some engine calibration work will be needed to run headers on this package...
