    What Could Replace Your Viper???

Sorry, I thought we were talking about realistic resale prices. My bad. By the way, a '96 993 turbo for $75,000 will likely have a few more miles than your GTS. '96-97 993's are some of the strongest Porsches in terms of resale value.

    What Could Replace Your Viper???

If you find a 993 turbo for only $15,000 more than the trade-in value of your Viper, let me know (of course I might be too busy to do anything about it, since I will be occupied taking pictures of all the flying pigs that suddenly appear).

    Knock Sensor?

Actually, I've heard that Skid Roe is no longer offering the VEC 1 - a convenient way to price differentiate by forcing the upgrade to a VEC 2. Anybody heard of these guys - looks like they have what essentially amounts to a VEC 1. http://www.splitsec.com/products/arc1/arc1ds.htm Marv - are...

    Knock Sensor?

Anyone know if the 97 engine has a knock sensor. I'm running 14:1 A/F mixture, and I'm a little worried about getting on it too much without a knock sensor. Thanks.

New Exhaust - Cats or no Cats?

Lose the cats - sound is improved, get some cool flames and a nice power bump. I guess you could try out some of the pricey high flow cats if you are really finicky about the smell (I don't notice it) or noise. I think if you look hard, you may find a distributor throwing in a free skirt with...

    Cat removal??

Maybe those fumes you and Sean smell are coming from the brakes. As far as the residue ending up in my gills, I'm not in a habit of putting my grill near my rear bumper while driving, so I guess it's not really an issue for me. But, I do see your point - a lot of older guys don't really like...

    Cat removal??

Jack the cats, go with a Borla "cat-back" (can be had for less than $1,000) and get some niiiiiiice headers. Word around town is that when this combo goes a'huntin' on the toll road, little Ferrari 550's run and hide behind the gates of Casa de Whitey. Seriously, I am totally pleased with the...

VOI 7 musings and a thought for #8

Don't forget the complimentary contingent of 10 hound dogs that will happily place themselves under your trailer as you roll into Richmond's finest RV Park 'N Gas, errrrr 5 star hotel. Hey, if I make the trip to Dixie do I get a free "Wine 'Em Dine 'Em 69 'Em" one-size-fits-all trucker's cap?

Dont forget, Mario Andretti at my shop DEC 6th!!

Better not try to get in front of Mario on the way to the buffet line, or he is likely to forget he's not on a track and kamakazee you on the way to cutting you off for a second helping of macaroni and cheese. Why don't you see if A.J. Foyt can make it too, then see who gets that last helping...

Does anyone know where to get Vinyl Stripes?

I believe you can find them at your local Wal-Mart. Right next to the neon running lights and dancing hula girl for your dash.

    Open Letter to Daimler-Chrysler (long)

Maybe I'm misreading your post, but are the "various places" on the rim that are stained only the BACK of the rim and the lug holes? If so, again, maybe I don't get what you are saying, but how exactly are the BACKS of the rims visible when the wheels are on the car and the car is on the...

    12.4 QUARTER MILE 2002 Z06

The only thing more predictable than Fergie busting out his DC pom-poms or xtremensa posting pics of some hood beef is the major car rags propping up GM. How do you convert RWHP ?

Makara and Black Snake are both correct. rwhp/.85 is the same as rwhp(1.177). The use of a 20% loss would probably be too high, given that the Viper is a manual transmission car, even with the presence of half shafts. I've heard empirical results of between 15 and 12 percent driveline loss.

is the rattle at idle normal???

Neutral Gear Rattle (NGR). Numerous threads discussing it in archives. Short answer - no big deal, but if you are under warranty, take it in for a change of tranny fluid under the appropriate service bulletin.

    aluminum flywheels -your experience

I have the Fidanza with a 3.54 gear, and it is more responsive than the gearset without the aluminum flywheel.
