When the Viper was introduced it was a 'halo' car: something to make people think Chrysler had products worth examining. Let's not forget that this was still the era of the dreaded "K-car". Part of the engineering justification was learning how to work with composites that led to the...
Let me get this straight.... 180 MPH on a public street. Then followed by 200 mph on the same street in a car with no roll bars. And the entire sum of the skill involved is... pressing a pedal three inches?
This sounds like the setup to one of those jokes that begins, "Hey guys! Watch this!"
Have fun. We'll be at Summit Point with the FFR Spec Cobra and the wife's 944 Cup car for a little practice. We'll be back at VIR at the end of the month.
Not sure how much time at VIR you have or enduro time. If you might have some questions, send me a note: I have driven a couple enduros...
Re: Why won\'t anyone race me? Last non-kill = 996 Turbo
I think I am going to be ill. I can't believe how many people on the board are defending street racing. There is *absolutely* no excuse for street racing. Demonstrating that you can push your right foot is hardly an indication of penis...
Mike, congrats! Next time you are at the track find someone with a tire pyrometer. We've learned it is the only way to determine what you need for tire pressures.
Did you run with PDA? Several of my friends with Cobras were running there this weekend I think.
Ah. What can I say? You know street racing is bad and stupid, but you get excited by the thrill of it. If only you would go to your local track and actually learn to drive... I teach all of my students that I have yet to find someone who didn't know how to push the accelerator - there is no...
Re: VIPERSPEED\'S ARCHER NOTCHES WINS IN MAY AT MID-OHIO AND TMS
I need to check the rule book..... What combo allows a Viper in GT2? I know T2.
As for driving the Viper or the Vette at it's limits.... I might take minor exception. In my mind, the Viper is easier to drive at the absolute...
lol. Last year at CMP we have an over-enthusiastic Viper starting from the back of the pack with NASA's Big Bore group. His short day was less than impressive:

Like you, I am an instructor at the track from time to time. At Kershaw, SC, I was once driving the Viper and lost the brakes. Kershaw is a tight, technical track with intense braking. The long and the short of it is that I boiled the brakes and very nearly whacked the car. My guess is that...
It would have been better if you let him go. Then he would know your balls are so big not to even waste the time. Pushing your right foot isn't racing.
No offense. Glad you had fun. Really glad no one got hurt.
Jason- Great attitude! If we could get more guys like you then maybe we could change the image!
I went with the FFR Spec Cobra (as you can see in the little picture to the left) for my racing. As much fun as the Viper is, I decided that I couldn't really afford wheel to wheel racing with the...

Well, there is, sorta. The SPO class is considered an extension of GT-1. I don't think SPO...

Maybe in time I'll go back out on a road course but it would have to be a Viper days event or something like that. The thought of some guy in a Honda losing control and running into me makes me...
I can't make this, but I thought some might be interested. NASA is a good group to run with.
NASA at Nelson Ledges
NASA Ohio/Indiana is taking any last minute registrations for this weekends HPDE, Triple Sprint, and 200 mile enduro. If you are interested, the late fee has been waived...
You didn't say much about the course you were driving, so that might have something to do with it too. I just drove my buddy's 993 TT this weekend at Lowes. It ended up with over $20K of damage after I drove it (another story, another thread, or you can see the results at www.elams.org)...
Ok. I will weigh on this one. I am a Viper Owner, licensed instructor, drive/instruct at Summit Point, and just finished both racing and instructing this past weekend at Charlotte/Lowe's in-field road course (the original part of the thread).
Let me be the first to say that all instructors...
