    I painted them in my garage. I removed the red paint then dry & wet sanded. Then painted several coats of blue then wet sand and buffed. Painted right over the letters and snake then block sanded dry.

    Hair dryer is the way to go. I don't why I said blow dryer. Your correct heat gun is to hot. I don think the letters are painted. I think the color is in the plastic lettering.
