    Downshifting?

    Shifting from 5th to 3rd is not a problem in the 50 - 60 mph range. I have done this on several occasions when passing someone who likes to drive 50 mph in a 60 mph zone (I have found that the Viper really does not like 5th gear at 50 mph). 3rd gear will carry up to at least 90 mph...not...

    Oil everywhere....

    Don't feel bad. I had that exact same thing happen to me about 15 years ago on a '69 Fastback Mustang. Terrible mess to clean up. I put the car on jack stands and used soap/water at that time in the drive way. I am sure that there are better things to use today.
