Vette owners are not a friendly bunch...

Well, I have both a GTS and a C5, and I can tell you one thing, I'M NEVER RUDE TO myself in the GTS when I drive my C5 :rolaugh:

Great to hear you had a good experience with them! I would never hesitate to go back there. I think it is wonderful they'll work on anything (within reason). $400 for an alignment is F'ing crazy... WTH do dealers get off?

    Shift rpm

CAFE standards. Nothing to do with abs/trac control, all about minimum MPG.

    Shift rpm

Agree! Makes me laugh how many spend money on a skip shift delete (like $30 for all the corvettes)... I have a perfect skip-shift delete... it's a size 10.

Shifter Knob and Short Throw Shifter...

I LOVE my Hurst on my Vette for the track, but it's a workout. On the Viper I've just picked up a First Strike knob, making it a bit shorter and I like it with the stock shifter. I won't be changing it further.

    let's see your GTS wings!

    Shift rpm

Hard to tell you an exact amount, it varies constantly. If I'm in traffic then yeah it's probably around 2k, but it's really dictated more by the balance of acceleration and torque at that throttle level (i.e. by feel). If there's no one in front of me then I'm almost always on it a bit, up to...

OK, don't lie, how many have bid on this?

Hey now... at least he took the time to dynamat it. That should kill some of the road noise... though I guess with no floor it may not be as effective.

I'd recommend Ruf too. They are the only shop that was willing to put -2.5* on my vette for the track... They do a great job and are used to handling high dollar cars. I think I paid $190 for a full four wheel track setup (can't recall exactly).

    Valrico, FL Accident

Honestly? So why is the GTS with 13" so bad? I mean, traction is a pretty straightforward equation. Now if you mean control once traction is lost, that's a different story. Some cars are very predictable some not. You can say what you want about Corvette's but I love my C5 at the edge (on...

    Valrico, FL Accident

ugh... just threw up in my mouth a little looking at that... Agree with CEJ's edit, I'd bet money that was it. You gotta respect these cars, and your own limits, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO the knowledge that I've had my share of accidental brain-farts over the years and you have to guard...

    New Viper is huge letdown

That explains why I love it!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL 640hp stock is a disappointment? Sheesh.. how much do you need. Great, there's a mustang that can put out more... there's miatas running around with higher HP/weight ratio too... there's always something faster. If beating everyone at a strip is...

    My First Autocross

Great job! I've never done an a-cross. Tracked the vette plenty, but just can't bring myself to get the viper out there yet. I've had a few off-road excursions in the vette, and the idea of doing that with the GTS is just blood curdling LOL Good to see you out there drivin' it like it shoudl...

Sad sad day... beloved viper gts gone...

kpilot, Bottom line, you are now ok, and that is so great to hear. We all love our cars, but at the end of the day they are hunks of metal and plastic. Life is more important. Good luck with your sale, enjoy the RT and best wishes in all else. Jon

The Viper can take a hit, that's for sure...

Dang... sorry to hear/see that, but glad there was no major structural damage! The chick's car is f'd up!

    Fuel pump wont work

Definitely the latter... I'd bet most here care to get you up and running again :) I don't know this car that well, but with the dead battery/relay, don't you have to reset the security system with the key in the glove box? Maybe this is not allowing power to the pump? (apologize, again...

    Car shows in general....

I dunno. I've been in the Corvette world since 2000 and honestly never noticed this. Everyone I knew either (1) appreciated all sports cars, or (2) was so wrapped up in Corvette fever, 50 years of Corvette, all things corvette, put corvette flags on everything etc. they wouldn't even have...

Ever notice that Viper owners also own a Vette as well..

I own both (no pics handy). In 2000 I fell in love with the GTS. Not being able to afford anything of the sort at the time, I looked at Corvettes. I really did like the C5 body style, and I'd never owned a real sports car. At the time it was a daily driver (couldn't afford two cars). The...

    New Bend Pak lift installed

Congrats on the lift. I guess you still have to use a jack/stands for wheel/brake/suspension work?

    Tell me your honest opinion

Can't comment on the price, don't know enough. I can say Premier was good to work with. I got my GTS through them. I probably got taken for a bit... but it was exactly what I wanted, and not an easy to find color combo (2001 S/S). So, ultimately I could have bargained more but I was not...

I wish I can find this parking garage..check out this tube..lol...cool ..vid..

LOL Cool. If you listen to some out there, that garage holds all the Vipers that are still on the road LOL

A few generic Viper GTS questions...

It is a collector's car. Which is good, because you can get a super low miles GTS that is almost brand new (wear wise) and then drive the living heck out of it like it deserves to be driven! :D

What's the big deal about large wheel size?

Ouchie LOL As said, tires are part of the spring rate, so things must be balanced. If the car is designed with a certain sidewall in mind (springs designed accordingly) that's one thing. If a car is designed one way, then rubber band tires are put on, handling will generally not be optimum...
