    Thanks Dean, I decided to take it off and will take it to a machinist next week to see if they can make new threads for it. Closer inspection showed that the threads had been destroyed already by a previous owner, there was a spot of weld on the ball joint.

    Thanks SS. I will need to pull the passenger seat out of the car tomorrow anyway, so I'll see if I can get a better look at the mechanism. Maybe bolt off the whole seatback to get the mechanisms front pin off and see whats what there.
