DODGE MOTORSPORTS, VIPER COMPETITION COUPE GAINING GROUND
Auburn Hills, Mich. - When the Dodge brand created the Viper Competition
Coupe, a new era in sports car racing began. As the only domestically manufactured
turnkey racecar competing in the SCCA Speed World Challenge GT Series, the
Viper Competition Coupe epitomizes the concept of cost-effective racing. The
growth of the program is well represented at the Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course this
weekend, as over 1/3 of the SCCA Speed World Challenge GT Series field consists
of Dodge Vipers.
A truly low-flying rocket ship, the Viper Competition Coupe boasts a V-10 8.3
L powerplant that can produce speeds of up to 193 mph. Upon being ordered
through the Viper Race Headquarters, the race ready machines are assembled at the
Viper build facility in Lavonia, Mich. As a turnkey racecar, the Viper
Competition Coupe allows race drivers and sports car enthusiasts the opportunity to
be competitive right out of the box, theoretically speaking. Optional
performance packages are available at the owner's discretion.
While the sports car community has embraced the Viper Competition Coupe, the
racing industry has as well. The reliability and durability of the Viper
Competition Coupe has attracted the attention of several SCCA Speed World Challenge
GT Series competitors, as 10 race drivers regularly compete in the series
under the Team Viper banner. With a base price of $129,000, the Viper Competition
Coupe offers competitors an outstanding opportunity to make the most of their
racing endeavors.
Since the first Viper Competition Coupe was delivered in December of 2003,
there have been a total of 52 cars produced. As the reputation of the brand
continues to grow, Dodge is looking to further increase sales.
