Anybody in the know whether the GEN-3 is weaker compared to a GTS power steering pump? Friend of mine has trouble with his 2005 (second time failure) and wants to put in a GTS power steering pump/reservoir...:dunno:

Marcus,

the Gen 3 pump not only controls the steering rack, but also powers the hydraulic radiator fan. From What I understand, the gen 3 pump puts out more volume to handle both functions and they look different from each other too.

What kind of issues are causing the previous ones to fail?

Steve

Thanks Steve.

From what I know the pumps were leaking (main shaft?) and I do know (in the meantime) that the hydraulic fan is operated by the pump too. He was told from a "ViperTech" (questionable guy to me) that the GTS pump is "stronger"...

Frankly, I have no idea whether a GEN-II PS pump would fit a 2005 or can handle the additional flow to the hydraulic fan...

What were the failures? It is quite possible the first caused the second, if there was debris in the system.
