I've seen a few threads about Viper Office Chairs and some selling for as much as $1500. I so happen to have an extra chair taken off from my '08 and would like to turn it into an office chair. Has anyone of you done that and what is a good chair base to use. Instead of using wood to jerry-rig something myself, I'm looking for a more professional looking solution.

these days office max, depot, etc sell executive chairs for $50 on sale. they have wheels, tilt, height, adjustments
i've wondered if making an adapter plate would be doable
if so, would look good, cost little to make since you have the seat, the only real problem might be the weight of the seat
