I know it should be self evident and easy for the simplest of minds. That's where I fall short. I look for the complicated in everything.

Do I just grab them by their little wings and yank?

I'm referring to the clips that hold the hood pad to the hood. The little plastic thingys.

Do I need to buy new ones before putting the pad back in place? If I do where can they be located?

Thanks Mucho in advance

Grab them wings together and twist and pull. some come off clean others damaged, might be smart to purchase some from Chuck Tator.

Yes as described by FLX109, just pull them and twist back and forth until they come off. I got new clips that were nicer than factory clips from Auto Zone. They are in the aisle where the nuts/bolts are hanging on the rack or ask an employee. You can match them up easily by looking at them, sorry i dont have the packages anymore!!! Good luck :)

PEP BOYS has them also packaged in a set of 3 for about $2-$3 same clip.

Check with your local auto body parts supplier from the yellow pages. They generally sell them in packs of 10 or 20 and will work out much cheaper. Take one out for comparison purposes.
