\"It\'s what \'fast\' looks like in your dreams\"

Was passing through yet another airport today and stopped to browse the magazines for something to read on the next flight. Same old stuff in the major mags (M/T, R&T, etc.) and I was about to give up. Looked down and saw a magazine I had never seen before, but had heard about: AMI Auto World Weekly. The cover story? VETTE VS. VIPER: We pick a winner!

Well, the bottom line is that the winner they picked was a 2000 ACR over a 2001 Z06. As with virtually every other magazine, the writers complained that driving the Viper was "punishing" compared to the Vette. That was the only real beef besides the no ABS (they noted that it was the Vettes only performance advantage). Other notable quotes:

"While only a handful of cognoscenti notice the Z06's subtle cues, the Viper drops jaws everywhere. Muscular, evocative, and startling, it's what 'fast' looks like in your dreams."

"AWW has never tested a car with more outright speed or such lightning-quick responsiveness. This Viper is virtually untouchable off the line. And in the quarter-mile, its space-shuttle solid-booster-like continous thrust puts it in a league of, oh, maybe three of the fastest production cars on earth."

In 40-140 mph testing, they said, "That means that if a Z06 planted itself on a Viper's tail coming onto a straight, even allowing for drafting, the Viper GTS would have close to a football field on the Z06 as they approached 140 mph." Of course, without antilock braking, the Vette could possibly catch it on the turns.

The bottom line? "The Dodge Viper GTS ACR is unbeatable. The Corvette Z06, despite its lighter weight, outstanding handling, and neck-snapping brakes, will need more power and more capable tires to get within passing range."

Fun article, and well worth the read whether you are a Vette or Viper fan - both AWESOME cars!
