The car averaged 19.8 MPG on the way to Vegas from Los Angeles which had about 45 minutes of stop and go traffic on Fwy 10 and 15, not bad at all for my '08 ACR w/ 3.55 gears. The best part was that I didn't have to stop mid way for a gas stop. But coming back from Vegas w/ less traffic and traveling toward the coast (more downhill) averaged only 17 MPG and had to stop for gas 30 miles from home! So could it be due to being pedal to the metal for a day at the track got the ECU thinking it needed to dump more fuel into the engine and dropped the gas mileage by 15%?

Hey Bruce,
We were heading into the wind all the way home.
Or maybe it was all that extra money you won in the Casino's that was weighing you down !

You were probably going faster on the way back vs your speed on the way there. Faster travel = lower mileage, especially on an ACR - more drag the faster you go.

Even my diesel truck gets 16+ MPG at 65 mph, and only 12-14 at 85 mph , problem is the damn truck likes to go 95mph all day long!

I would also suggest to all you So Cal guys that you check your air filters after that trip. We have a lot of dust in the air and Sunday was so windy and there was HEAVY pollen from those damned Mulberry trees. I always clean my filters after the pollen drops from them. I'll bet money your filter is yellow/green. I don't know if that would cause a huge difference in MPG but it has to have some impact.

Did you have an extra body in the back???

OR

Going out use 6th gear, but only 5th on the way home? I did this once and noticed about the same difference.

I can see a strong headwind hurting the fuel economy a little but 3 MPG? And I didn't go any faster on the way back and had less traffic too. Actually I'm not too concern w/ the MPG too much, just want to make it to and from Vegas on one tank which is my way of measuring gas milesage on a car. My Lotus didn't make it in one tankful, the EvO barely pass. Had a C5 Z06 which used only about 1/2 tank (28 actual MPG). So the only reason I could think of was the ECU running on more aggressive maps after the track day.

Bruce, my old ACR and 06 coupe had 3:55's and I never broke 18. I'll bet you didn't totally fill the tank to the same level on the two stops, underfilled on the 19 run. Wish I was there for the Vegas event. Hope to see you at the Stack dyno event. Did you put bellangers on? Mike

I'm pretty sure I filled the tanks full as I checked the fuel gauge after each fill-up. But I sure did 19.8 on the way to Vegas, even with some traffic. That wasn't bad at all. I guess I'll just have to take another trip to Vegas in the ACR to find out for sure.
No Bellangers yet but I already had the ACR dyno'd at DC (only got 500 even) so if I go to Stack, I'll bring another car.

Did anyone mention tire pressure? Temperature change?

Maybe it was all the Vegas buffets?:)
