Friends,

At this point in time this is ONLY a rumor, suffice to say, I've been informed by a very reliable source(s) the Viper may very well halt production after 2009.

Also, rumor has it, our beloved Herb Helbig will be retiring effective this Thursday due to the fact that Corporate has seized funding the R&D department.

Please, if anybody can confirm or deny these allegations please let us know?

Sincerely,
Doug Levin

There is a thread somewhere about Herb retiring but cannot comment on the demise of the Viper in 09 but it does appear the writing is on the wall. :(

Yep, its over....

Now Dave...you'll have to beat this earlier post....

When once one said "It's a Dodge Viper I'll buy!"
A company strong was there to boldly reply
"We hear you and what's more, we want to deliver
a product so fast as to make you sit there and quiver!
Just the product you WANT and do so with great pride!"
Alas, right now that clarion call has subsided..
replaced in good measure where analyst have guided.
Now the refrain a street racer is more to likely to hear,
is apt to bring anguish rather than gear grinding cheer.
"I'm afriad what you want may not be what you deserve,
12mpg is a tough thing to sell to those investor's we serve!
Our thoughts are turning more to cars that make a new statement,
one that resounds with fuel consumption and waste abatement!
In fact the chances of us spending new money on another rocket?
Well, lets just say it just ain't on the docket......."

I saw this coming myself, but didn't want to believe it. When noobies made posts like this, I never got worried. When Doug Levin is the poster, it holds A LOT more weight :(

Merely quoted Doug's post from the Gen I/II section, think everybody needs to make some noise to the new owners of Dodge/Chrysler. :( :(

Sad to hear that our era will soon be at an end. The only bright side is we will all be owning classics by the year 2025. They will be worth a lot, but if anyone is like me, you'd rather see a new generation every four to five years.

Don't make me dig up my old posts, but I've been saying for months,

Congrats. You can join all the others that have been saying the same thing since 1992.

It's like saying the Cubs are gonna win the World Series. Someday, you're gonna be right. Don't take credit for being a genius when it happens.

So..... If this were to be true and some sort of official word was announced (just day dreaming) Is there any particular Viper you would go buy now, knowing the era was over? Low mile GTS? ACR? 1992? GT2? 600hp beast? If 2009 were the end, which car would you want in your garage 10 years from now? Hmmmm....

Re: ***No More Viper After 2009??***

I sure hope not...

Someone needs to make an internet form that can be filled out, sent right to corporate, that basically states that the Viper is the factor that tied almost all of us to other Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep products. Without it, they wont be selling all of us tens of thousands of OTHER cars over the years to follow, not to mention the Viper itself.

If they are swarmed with 10,000 e-mails from ********** potential buyers, that might be enough to make them sing a different tune. Without the Viper... many of us would likely look elsewhere.

If its true, of course.

On the upside, our cars would be worth more- but who cares? that means insurance companies are going to be harder to deal with, and people wont want to drive their cars as much, effectively toning down the club in itself.

Potential buyers are like potential investors to a company pondering their reorganization strategy...

Money on the counter talks. E-mails blow.

If the rumor is true, could the Challenger be a result of this?

Re: ***No More Viper After 2009??***

you can email and petition all you want but cars like the viper are numbered. GM execs have already mentioned that the new ZR1 vette will likely be one of the last vettes.

Federal government is working on a 35mpg mandate for car companies. In order to offset the horrible mileage of their pickups (the best selling american cars) there's no room for high hp, low mpg models.

Well if it is 2009 that brings the legend to an end, I hope they do it in style, like 650+ HP.

Good point on the pickups. My DD - V10 Super Duty - just got 11.75 avg on the way to Saint Louis and back from Fort Worth. Hard to leave room for a $100K car when you're selling lots of $40K trucks like that.

Not to join in on the blah-blah but... I was wondering, with the upcoming FED requirements, if we wouldn't be faced with another late 1970-80's focus on MPG from the Mfg's. At any rate, I'll have an ACR in the garage and offset the mileage with the Scion!

For 2022. A lot can happen in 14 years. Both technologically and legislatively.

Rumors of model demise is commonplace in Detroit. It took 30 years for GM's rumors of Fbody cancellation to come true and now it appears they are bringing the car back.

Absolutely, Brother! That is if you arrive before the 2nd Quarter. Arrive after that and we can chill the beer and grub, take the Vipers out to Quartz Mountains, park them early, and then drink a few by the pool while the Treager smokes the beef. We should make it a point to meet up; once the ACR arrives. At the very least, you should make the trip with your Viper for the Summers Last Blast event in August (outside temp is usually 95-105 but the pool is 85-90). Vipers consume very little fuel while sitting and being admired... we can consider that our contribution to fighting global warming and increasing fuel demands ;)

Dealer mark up on new Vipers these last few years is going to be brutal, if it's true...
