Plug n\' play replacement head unit - any good ones?

I've been meaning to replace the stock Alpine head unit for about...oh, 3 or 4 years. I swapped out all of the speakers with good stuff years ago and never got around to the Alpine.

I've searched, but every post I've found talks about mocking up a DIN connector for things to work out.

Question is, are there any decent pop-in replacement head units that don't require any DIN hacks? I'm looking for something easy and better, not necessarily the end-all / be-all.

I have wondered if there truly is a direct replacement. I think there is an Alpine unit which is a direct replacement but you still loose the AVC function.

Hopefully someone will chime in with the head unit information.

a ton of head units will work, but you need to mod the harness. head to a decent stereo shop they can hook you up.
