Spent last night at Sacramento Raceway for the monday night drags (bracket racing). I was happy with my consistant times but not my MPH. Last time I ran (2 years ago) my MPH varied between 117 to low 118's. This time, after Corsa and R/T cats I was running 116.4 to 117.1. My GTECH was giving me 380 to 405 rwhp when two years ago it was 420. Anyways, here are my 4 runs with a 12.2 dial in:
2.09/12.34/116.4
2.07/12.24/116.7
2.04/12.22/116.5
2.33/12.51/117.1 (spun badly)

The third race was against a 2003 Z06. To be fair, the guy only had had it for 2 weeks and it had just over 500 miles on it. The race went like this:

Me Z06
Dial in 12.2 12.8
R/T 1.13! .558
60' 2.04 2.37
ET 12.223 13.414

It was an amazingly close race due to my "spectacular" reaction time. I ended up winning by .018 sec! At least my next R/T was .568. After the race the guy seemed kind of dejected and said "I thought these things were faster than Vipers". Nice guy and surely he will do better with some practice and break in. His best time was 12.9.

Any ideas about the lower MPH? I have added Corsa and R/T cats since last run, can't remember if I had the VEC 1 on it last time. Plug wires are 4k old, plugs 2k old. The runs two years ago were done in July at night, probably same temp but I didn't check it. VEC 1 was set at +5/-14.

When he said he thought they were faster, you should have put your fists on your hips leaned back, puffed your chest and laughed heartily. Then kissed his girlfriend, kicked his dog and peed on his wheels.

Gotta keep 'em in their place and all, ya know?

I didn't need to say anything. His friend asked me what a car like mine costs (97 GTS) and I said you could probably pick one up for 45k$. He turned to the owner and said "you paid more than that for your car!"

Jeff, I can't help but laugh at your r/t in the 3rd race only because I am usually the same way. lol.

My mph was the same with those times or actually a touch less. So yours are probably right on the money.

So where did he get the idea that Z06 was faster??? Must have been some bar talk at a Vette club gathering.

Unfortunately it's the one who crosses the line first who wins. I definately had a much better ET but he got a .6 head start due to the dial in difference and .573 better reation time. This means he left the line 1.173 seconds before I did. Fortunately my ET was 1.191 faster so I crossed the line .018 seconds before him!

When I had a similar set up to yours except I had Belanger headers, I had my VEC1 set to +8/-20 and dynoed at 436 rwHP and 480 rwTorque. I also had S&B filters and smooth tubes.

Play with the settings on the VEC1 and see if the settings I used helps you out. I had absolutely no bog with the +8 setting and sometimes -16 felt better than -20 due to weather differences in temperatures, etc., but 85% of the time -20 felt the best.

For $2000+- you can slap some juice on your car and run low 11's,with 2.0 60fters.Not changing a thing.
Just as important, you beat the vette!lol.

Kenny,
I dynoed at 422 before the VEC one and Corsa/R/T's, just wondering if I have lost some HP since then. I will try to play with the VEC a bit. I have not really spent the time to tune it as much as I should.

Tooofst,
I have been thinking long and hard about NOS or a supercharger but as Sac is a NHRA track, I would need a cage next. Is there a simple wet setup that I can install myself without haveing to have a separate fuel cell? Would love to run in the 11's. I think I may try a set of Drag radials next.....

Hey Jeff, I met you last year at Sacto. My first time at the track. I had the 97 gts anf my friend kien had the 96 gts, both of us Blue with white. They basically tossed me when I ran 11.7 so I don't race there anymore. I think I'm good for 10's, but not at Sacto. I've had friends who were regulars at Sacto get tossed for running 11.9.

I will be there next sat night for grudge night to watch. Are you going? Treynor said he will bring the levin sc viper.

Yeah - sounds simple - but I keep finding out about the shaft loop, roll bar, etc... Just making the car fast is just part of the cost. The faster it goes the more you pay for safety equipment and setups. All the safety equipment seems to reduce the daily driver aspect as well.
