Just a quick note to all of my fellow NY/CT members....stay safe during Hurricane Sandy! Prepare best you can and stay home if at all possible.

All Emergency Services First Responders are on call, so looks like we'll be busy!

Don't Forget:

- Flashlights
- Batteries
- Drinking water
- Charge cell phones
- Fillup cars
- Move any potential flying objects from front/back yard - chairs, umbrellas, etc.
- Keep car keys handy
- Post emergency services phone number within easy reach
- Fill zip lock sandwich bags with water and put in freezer (in case you lose power)
- If you have a fireplace, make sure you have logs inside and ready

That's just a partial list....most of the key things to do.

Again, wishing you and your families stay safe during this hurricane!

Couple other tips from experience:

1) fill one bath tub with cold water. If you lose water pressure, you'll have a source of water for flushing the toilet, bathing, etc.
2) remember that upstairs is a bad place to be when a tree falls through your roof.
3) put foods that you'll want to access into a cooler. This means you don't have to open the fridge when you lose power...keeping the fridge/freezer closed makes a huge difference in how long stuff will last w/o power.
4) if you're really organized, put meats into the very bottom of the freezer...the bottom of the freezer (thinking side-by-side here) will stay cold for a long time. Top shelves, not so long.
5) pray.
