I know some of you have had your heater core go and leak inside the car. I was smelling a sour smell in my car so I ripped out the passenger side interior and it was a little moist under the carpet. I believe the AC drain was plugged and dropped water down there so when I put the car away for the winter water was just going sour.

The carpet itself does not smell, but the padding below it does. What is the best way to clean this padding? Should I bother tearing it off the carpet and having it carpet cleaned?

Really? No one had an answer. Man this forum has died off with knowledgeable people. Regardless the leak has been found. Had nothing to do with the AC drain or the heater core.

At Nashville VOI, the after effects of the hurricane from the Gulf left a couple of inches of water in the footwells. When I got home I pulled the carpet out (velcro part) and I let the car sit out in the sun everyday while I was at work for about a week. It got dry with no after effects of mold or smell.
