Hey guys, I need some help. I recently was checking out the VIN number on my 2001 RT10 and became confused by the 10th digit. The 10th digit in my VIN is a "1". In referring to the VIN breakdown in the Viper Registry I would have expected a "Z". The "Z" signifies a 2001 Model Year. A "1" indicates a 2003 Model year.
What am I missing?
KyViper.

You better hope that the 10th digit is a 1 or you have big problems!! The 10th digit signifies the model year 2001. The year 2000 was the last year the auto makers used letters to signify model years. In 2000 it happened to be "Y". The Z was never used. It's possible this is your 9th digit which would be a check digit.

A1998, I agree, I guess my confusion is do to the Viper Registry indicating that it should be a "Z".

KyViper,

I noticed the same thing when buying my 01. Threw me for a loop at first. The various vin's on the car matched, carfax, original sticker, title, original dealer database, etc. Too many things matched up perfectly so I didn't worry about it. Figured the registry info was wrong, which apparently it is, on the later cars.
